TV442E - 1860s Ballgown Bodice E-Pattern

This bodice fits just off the shoulder for evening wear. It reaches to the waist and has a point in front and back. An optional gathered bertha trims the neckline. The closure is in the center back, with hooks and eyes. The sleeve is a small pouf with a fitted lining. A double bow decorates the shoulders. This style is particularly suited to 1850-1873, but can be used for other periods as well. Heavy decorations at the neckline will give an elegant look to the bodice.

This sewing pattern is excellent! The fact that it is printable is even better, because we all want everything instantly nowadays.

It wasn't difficult to piece the printed sections together, and it had instructions for the best way to do it.

It is also true to size. The adjusted measurements were very accurate; the muslin practice run came out exactly my size and I didn't have to make any adjustments for the finished piece. Sadly I ran out of time before the event I was making the costume for and didn't get to add boning or line it (but I read that historically they might not have lined their clothing so they could repurpose pieces). It looked amazing unfinished, and I can't wait to see it when I finally complete it!

I had so much fun making this bodice, and it was so easy, and I am basically a total beginner. Before this I've only sewn a simple apron and pajama pants.
