TV101 - Petticoat with Wire Bustle

This petticoat bustle is based on an actual garment as seen in Harper's Bazaar magazine. This pattern will create a moderate sized bustle, proportioned to your hip size (one size does not fit all). It can be used as support for either 1870's or 1880's style of bustle dress. When combined with the TV170 Victorian Petticoat, you have the perfect foundation for you bustle dresses. This petticoat has a center front closure, and four hoop bones built into the back. This design allows for structural support for heavy skirts combined with ease of movement and wearability (you can sit down without making any adjustments to the bustle!!)

No other bustle pattern can offer this amount of comfort and style. Just put it on and forget it.  Petticoat will also fold flat for ease of storage.

TV101 was super easy to put together and looks and wears comfortably, giving the right amount of lift. I ordered the wire kit, even though it was not as wide as I would have liked (1/4 in instead of 1/2 in), but as it turned out, instead of making or purchasing casing material, I used 1/4 in bias tape and this holds the wire perfectly with stitching on both edges. I have several Truly Victorian patterns and they are Truly my favorites to work in for period fashions as they never look like “costumes”.

I really love this bustle! It's comfy and great that it has a petticoat built in! makes it great for summer. I normally have a "western" event to go to in July and this is perfect underneath my dress! Make sure you use good ribbon for the boning channels and it will be marvelous! I tried to cut corners and bought very cheap walmart fabric and it busted through on the first wear. However, after repairing with quality materials, I haven't had a problem since! I made the ruffles denser (added about 3 rows and redistributed) because I was using lace, which has less body than cotton or silk, and it is lovely! And not hard at all to make. I definitely recommend ordering the bustle wire kit, too.
