2013 Pink Dicken's Dress

Postby CherylT » Wed Oct 22, 2014 3:10 pm

I never had posted any of my dresses before. Since this year I haven't had a chance to sew, I'm posting the dress I made for Dickens on the Strand last year. I made it using TV patterns TV 225 1878 Fantail Skirt & TV 460 1885 Cuirass Bodice with some "tweaking". I added 5 rows of rouging on the front of the skirt and lots of knife pleating. I got a pleater board off Amazon and it worked like a dream. I always pleated by hand before. I got the idea for this dress from "Age of Innocence". It's like the one of the dresses that May wore but I added a little pink instead of just beige. It was really cold last year. It was in the 30s. We're not used to the cold here in Texas. The week before it was in the 80's. Needless to say, we needed our furs!

Oh wow, that's gorgeous! I especially love the trim of the train and it's thick poofiness. What did you stick under there to get the train to look so perfect?

I used TV 125, 1879 Petticoat w/ Detachable Train. I already made the petticoat so I made the detachable train and tacked it to the side seams of the skirt to keep it place. I also cut a piece of flannel backed vinyl and based it to the bottom of the detachable petticoat train (vinyl side down) so it would protect it from dirt, ect. It worked wonders!! I wore this to Dinner with Dickens, which was with Lucinda Dickens Hawksley. (She's a great-great-great granddaughter of Charles Dickens. I also have made dresses for her to wear!!)I know this is evening wear but it was just too pretty not to wear it during the day!!
