UK meet up?

Postby wyte phantom » Thu Sep 17, 2009 12:56 am

Well as the visit to Braemore seem to have fallen through until next year at least, and as I couldnt make it to Llandrindod wells, does anyone in the UK fancy trying to meet up sonewhere during the autumn?
If anyone else is going I shall be at the Whitby Gothic weekend at the end of October (I will be there 28th October to 4th November I think) and would be happy to meet up for tea and cake or just for a natter?

Hi Wyte Phantom,

Yes, I'd still really like to meet you! The only trouble is I'm currently out of a job again, and getting poorer by the hour, so travelling around England is not easy at the moment. Hopefully I'll soon be earning again, and then I'll be all for it!

I think I am going to be in Rochester for the Dickens Festival in the first weekend of December, don't know if you had thought of going to that at all?

Hope we can work something out!

Good luck with the job hunting, I hope you manage to get something soon!
Where about are you based? I am probably heading down south to visit friends later in the year, so if I end up in your neck of the woods maybe we could meet up then?

I'm in Uxbridge, near Heathrow. Do let me know if you'll be heading this way. Perhaps we could meet in London?

That sounds like it might work, I have friends in London and family just north of London, so I will have a look at my diary and see if I can fit in a trip down there to see everyone. Perhaps we could fit in a trip to a museum or afternoon tea? (I probably shouldnt say this, but we could always go fabric shoppng....)

Hi Wyte Phantom

I will be at the whitby gothic weekend, also did you know that the Whitby Abbey is hosting both day and night gothic victorian events this year, from the 29-31st at 12.00- 15.00 and the evening events are from 18.00- 20.30.Im sure it will be great, theres displays and people acting the parts of surgeons, scientists, highway men and even a funeral (its a theme i guess did you see the viking funeral they did last october?)

I look forwards to seeing you there, hope i finally get a chance to meet you.

Yours

Anyone planning to be at either of those and fancy meeting up?

I can remember when two events in two weeks seemed like a lot...
There was Whitby, back in work for two days, then an event in the Lake district, this weekend in Devon, next weekend is TORM and a wedding, the weekend after is Ludlow Medieval Christmas market. One of these days I will manage a weekend at home!

I will be in Rochester both days. Can't do Portsmouth, there comes a point when you have to say no to spending money on hotels and travel.

Would be good to meet anyone going.

Likewise, I will be in Rochester, but not Portsmouth. Would love to meet up!

Probably the best time would be after the 12 noon parade. It finishes at the Castle Gardens so we could meet on the green where the Mayor opens the festival. The parade usually ends around 12.30.

What do you all think??

Sounds good to me. How does one get a program for the festival?

I'm going to the ball on Friday night (not sure if they will still have tickets for that, it does sell out rather quickly) and then just wandering around Saturday and Sunday, obviously the parades (which anyone dressed up takes part in) the best one is the candlelit parade in the evenings, bring your lantern - we go to the cathedral and stand outside with the public and we all sing carols with the fake snow falling on us, it is the only thing that actually gets me in the christmas spirit. The Dean of Roachester leads the carols. Saturday night is the Hoi Polloi and i don't think there is anything on Sunday night, but i think most people are quite tired by then.

Where are you staying??

Hi,
Did you ladies manage to meet up in the end? I have not been to anything for ages and would love it if someone would suggest an event I could go to and meet other like-minded souls. I may be going to Dicken's World at the weekend (is that not where the Hoi Polloi ball was held?) where some of the Victorian Strollers will attend. There was talk of some of us getting together in the autumn but that thread went quiet after a while. What's everybody up to now the new year has started?
