Why limit the contest to America if the juging is based on photos?

Hi! We love our European friends as well truly! But, we had decided to start our first contest small...

Had to consider that when items are shipped to foreign countries, besides sometimes heavy shipping fees, there is also customs duties, which is usually 25-30 percent of item's declared value. So, when you insure an item, it is automatically declared at the full value...and you have to insure as many of these items are one of a kind and cannot be replaced. Many countries such as Italy prohibits sending clothing, lace, shoes, etc. to that country. That would be devastating to us if something was held back from customs- we want everyone to enjoy their prizes without problems if possible.

So, say if you've won something heavy or bulky to ship... say it will go from here (California) to say, Austraila or England... it might be very expensive shipping especially if oversized, then on top of that, have a $25. or higher customs duty tax on top of the shipping... so, we just felt that this may not be the best route for our overseas ladies who would like to enter to have to contend with.

This is not to say that we've given up opening this contest up to the world... I'm in the midst of some talks to see if we can somehow make this happen.

If anyone has any good ideas about this, please feel free to email me- I would love to open this contest to the whole world if a reasonable enough solution could be made! :D

Oops! I guess I didn't read the info well enough to realise there would actually be a prize to ship...I thought you just won the "honor" :)

Unfortunately I don't have any really good ideas about the shipping. It is constantly a problem for me when I buy things from overseas: shipping+taxes + % customs fee+ administrative fee---> a lot more expensive than originally planned

I feel rather left out, since men cannot enter the contest.....although I do look forward to seeing what results people from Truly Victorian and the Belle Alley produce.

Hi there,

So sorry about not being able to include include the men this time... we really didn't want to leave anyone out...honest. But, if we felt that if did expansions, we would need to include a whole separate set of men categories to include them at all levels, and at that point, if we included men, we would need to include children categories as well, couples, groups, etc.

For this first contest, especially since we only deal with ladies items, we just had to cap the categories off somewhere...

But High button boots wears ladies clothing...?

I too think he deserves to be in the game, competing for the best bustledress just as everybody else. :) But is IS your contest, and of course you have the last word:)

No, we understand and truly do not wish to leave anyone out... but, it's not actually as simple as it may seem. Again, please keep in mind, if we allow one male entry (wearing ladies clothing?) in fairness, then we have to broaden all the categories, etc., to allow the others to enter as well, as it just wouldn't be fair to allow one and then not all the others...

Thank you so much for opening this to international people as well :) You didn't need to so for that I say thank you :) I shall be editing some image files very soon and you are very much inspiring me to work on three 1870s to 1880s gowns now rather than leave them 'til next year ;)
