Finished grey bustle gown

I was finally able to finish this grey late-bustle gown I've been working on for three years! :-) I just couldn't figure out how to do the bodice for the longest time, but I eventually had a moment of inspiration and I thought I would share the results.

I bought the cut-velvet first and have been hoarding it for a decade or more looking for the right fabrics to match it. The last of which was the jacquard that is the underskirt and inner bodice.

The bodice is the 1880 Cuirass Bodice TV460, with extensive modifications. I changed the front hem as well as added the tab to the length of the side and side back panel, cutting the back even with my waist. The double-breasted front is the same pieces cut down with an added inch of ease to lay over the inner bodice. Both bodice fronts are sewn into the side seam together creating the coated look. I tacked the velvet collar to the finished bodice by hand.

The overskirt is the Asymmetrical Add-On TV382 in cotton velvet. It is made separate from the underskirt which is TV290 the Draped Skirt. I wanted to be able to use it with other outfits or wear it with it the overskirt.

First the fashion plate that I liked so much.

And then the dress. The back of the bustle on the far left isn't cut off of the original.

Thanks!

Wow, absolutely gorgeous! Very well done!

Would you mind a tiny bit of criticism? (I'm sorry)
If you have any bits of the velvet left, I would change the buttons on the double breasted part to the velvet. I can't really see them as they match to well, and that double line of buttons is an important part of the outfit.

But everything else is just amazingly wonderful!

Oh, did I mention your sleeves are perfect? And I just love the brocade. And the double points below the waist.... Just wow, on the whole dress.

Thanks Heather! I don't mind the suggestion at all. It is actually on my to-do list to change the buttons. I used those last minute because the ones I'd planned on using actually looked awful once I received them...the day before the event. It never occurred to me to use velvet! I will totally do that. Thanks so much!

Yeah, the velvet would be perfect. It will extend the vertical line of the collar down the bodice. And with the taper at the waist, it will be very flattering!

My word!! Very lovely, and suits you well. Did you also design the hat?

Just splendid.

Thank you, mgbetz and m d b. I worked for sometime to get it where I liked it. If I'd been able to buy more of that gorgeous cut velvet at the time, those tabs would have been fuller, but since I basically had about 2 yards, and it isn't a symmetrical pattern, I did what I could. :-)

The hat is a grey felt Welsh crown that my friend Luna C. from Caveat Emptor made. I added decorations to match my dress.

This is beautiful, especially the attention to all the details. Sometimes waiting is worth it for the final outcome. And this was a job well done. I love your hat too.
