A blue striped Seaside 1890s TV gown

Postby Val » Fri Aug 23, 2013 12:25 pm

For the Sunday Fantasy Tea at Costume College, "Pirates of Penzance; A Victorian Seaside Frolic", I made TV's 496 Ripple Jacket, and TV 291 Walking Skirt for it. Both were made out of a medium weight stripped cotton. I narrowed the collar down a bit, so it didn't hang over my shoulders, did a contrast white cotton collar, and made a navy blue insert instead of the bands across the front of the jacket. I also put a staybelt inside the jacket to hold it tightly to my body. I covered large buttons with the navy fabric and placed two on each cuff, and 6 on the front of the jacket.

I love the fit of the jacket, and of course the skirt. I had hoped to make the blouse to go with it but ran out of time, so had to wear a very lightweight lacy one that didn't hold up well.
I was worried that the sleeves might be too poofy for my comfort but they were perfect although the blouse I intend to make for it will support them a little better.

You look lovely, I love the contrast of blue and white!
