Annual Train Excursions (2010 and 2011)

Postby totchipanda » Tue Aug 30, 2011 8:42 pm

Hey all,

I had posted in 2009 about my mom and I taking a steam train trip and how we had dressed up in Victorian :3 Well, our social group thought it was a fantastic idea, and we've been in the last two years, with more and more people dressing up. This year we had 16 costumers!

I am RIDICULOUSLY proud of this dress. I pulled most of it together in a week, and I even made a hat to go with it the day before the trip, which is entirely hand-sewn and made with plastic canvas rather than buckram. I also wore it to Worldcon in Reno a couple weeks ago, and I got a *lot* of compliments on it, including one person wistfully asking if I take commissions. Now that I've put a ruffle on the bottom skirt, I think I am always going to do so, I love how it looks!

We were going to dress up for the trip from Carson City to Virginia City, but decided that our poor Canadian constitutions couldn't handle the heat. Now I wish we had, it would have been wonderful to have some pictures taken among all their beautiful 1870s boardwalk.

Our train trip is run out of Stettler, Alberta, Canada: Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions

What a great idea! I am so going to organize some sort of get together like this with my friends. Perhaps with the Christmas lights festival we have here.
Everyone looks amazing in your group!

The fit of both of your dresses is very nice! Really like that cream one, there's something so elegant about the monotone color. Keep doing the ruffle it looks great!

Whenever you plan to take the Carson City to VA City train, let us know! Maybe we all can plan with you!

Which city and state do you live in?

And I LOVE your cream dress! Great job!

Thanks everyone :)

Diana, I live in Canada; it was a 27 hour drive from here to Reno and I'm not eager to repeat the experience! However, I loved being in Carson City, and I loved Virginia City even more, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get some pictures on their boardwalk and ride the stagecoach again ;) If I ever find myself down that way again, I will definitely give lots of notice so we can splash the town with some colour :3

Yes, isn't Virginia City wonderful? We were there in April.
