TV454, German Day Dress

Postby Miss Cindy » Fri Jul 01, 2011 11:08 am

I have finished this dress, finally. I believe I need to adjust a few things to make it more finished, such as the closure on the back. Not sure what I should do, but I will improvise. :)
Feel free to comment on its fit, if you see something that needs fixing.
I found the neck line to be high in the front, so I will need to work on that. Overall, it is a lovely pattern and the skirt was not nearly so bad as I had imagined it would be.

Thank you, Heather, for this lovely pattern!

Gorgeous! Now you just need a lace collar & pin, and a set of batiste undersleeves...

I think with the short sleeves you need to cut the neckline down to a more evening height. I would take 1-2" off the back and side of the neck and then put in a V in the front. That will better match the even length sleeves.

Thank you, Ladies!
Miss Heather, I was debating the V neck line, but was unsure how to go about it. Thank you!
I made short sleeves in hopes of getting more air, in this hot climate. :?

I totally understand teh heat issue. It is 101 here today. Yay. But, I should have said the short sleeves and open neck to work for a summer type dress, as well as evening. The early Victorian years were much more lenient about the open necklines, so that should not be a problem. I find that the open neck/short sleeve balance each other nicely. Cutting the neckline down about 2" at back and sides, and then lower in front is called a "half high" neckline. Very popular for the 1840s. Just draw a line on your bodice where you want the neckline to be, add 1/2" seam allowance, and you are all set.

I cut some of the neckline, not as much as you suggest Miss Heather, but it is more comfortable and yet still modest enough for my tastes. :)
