Phew! The wedding is over!

Postby elensari » Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:11 pm

Finally, the event has passed, and I may get normal amounts of sleep for awhile.

6 dresses in as many weeks leading up to the wedding in Galveston.

Here are my girls and I

There are a bunch more photos, in my set on Flickr.

Also, eventually I will create the dress journal on my website.

Thanks to everyone for their help and insights.

My best wishes for your future happiness.

An absolutely breathtaking bride! A fabulous re-creation in all its details (coiffure, headdress, veil, bracelet, shoes, gloves, material, fringes… ) : everything is there. And the sleeves… That’s more than just Couture, it’s Haute Couture (hand-made?).
Almost better than the real thing. A colossal amount of work (6 dresses) and always impeccable.
Wow!

Wow! Thank you so much. It was a great deal of work, and I could not have had it turn out at all better. I am so thankful to all the friends that helped me, and it was pure pleasure to gift them with dresses as well for all their hard work.

I love what I do! Now I just need more places to do it!

There are more pictures here from a dear friend of mine.

Absolutely amazing!! Your dress is so gorgeous! as are all the other fine ladies. I am in love with the folds in the front, and the sleeves. Just wonderful!

That is lovely. Out of curiosity, what is the border around the edge of your tunic (overskirt)? It looks like a very full ruffle or fringe, with tassels?

Thanks Heather! Those folds were a pain, but they and the sleeves were my favorite parts of the whole dress. I am now really good at hidden tacking stitches. :P

Bookwyrm:

It is a tassel fringe, and one of the first things I bought. :D
Here is the link for it:

Totally gorgeous. All of them are great. I love the draping layers on your skirt.

What patterns did you use?

Congratulations! Your dress is truly a work of art. I'll bet you didn't want to take it off!

Thanks everyone! :D

Aimeekitty: That is a somewhat convoluted answer. My dress bodice is a combo of the back of the tail bodice and the front is mostly the NF dinner bodice with the Cfront from the two-tone bodice. All of the underskirts are straight Fantails with trains. The only difference being color and decoration. My overskirt is basically the assymetrical add-on with A LOT of re-draping and an insane amount of hand sewing.

The grey outfit's bodice is the same front pieces as mine with a little polonaise thrown in to make the side/side back dart. Her over-skirt is the Long draped as per Heather's recommendation, with an added layer at the back and lots of futzing to get the drape to be pretty.

The blue is again, the same fronts although on hers, I button up the CF of the bodice underneath and then made the separate velvet piece button on to fake double-breasted-ness. The back is the 1885 cuirass.
Her overskirt is the Square overskirt. I do NOT recommend making this out of silk you have to piece that is charmeuse-like!

The green is almost entirely the Dinner bodice with some modifications. Her over skirt front is my fashioning and the back is from the Hermione.

I hope that answers your question.

Diana:
The Rose Ceremony, I found online when I was looking for something not religious, sweet, and in keeping with a more Victorian feel. It is a series of little vows that John and his son will give me a rose every year on our Anniversary as a symbol of their dedication to me. And my vow is to keep the vase prepared and I add a rose signifying my dedication to them and us as a family.
