3 Bustles

Postby gretagretchen » Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:32 pm

Hi all!

Here are photos of some of the bustles I've been working on this year:

Safari Bustle - I entered this in the bustledress.com contest and it made it to the finals which was very exciting! The overskirt is made from traditional block printed cotton purchased in India. Also worn at dragon*con and The Asylum

Strawberry Shortcake Bustle - worn at dragon*con. I also made the earrings and matching hat from a Denise Nadine frame

steamPUNK bustle - a dress of the 70s! - 1870s and 1970s! Features zippers as piping in the curved back seams, vest seams and trimming the front of the overskirt. Other details referencing punk fashion ala Westwood. I made the matching hat from a Denise Nadine frame and necklace also. Worn at dragon*con and won first place in The Asylum costume contest.

Oh my god, I love the bondage straps on the overskirt! I used to have a pair of enormous pants in that style ('til they fell apart, alas! second hand hot topic clothing) with chains and straps and etc.

I wore the strawberry shortcake bustle last weekend to Sunday in the Park at Oakland Cemetery, a victorian festival in Atlanta's historic cemetery. I won best overall costume in a large and well dress field. I was just e-mailed a couple of awesome photos so I had to share!

Fabulous! I really like the B&W, what a neat effect.
