Carhartt work corset

Postby Amphigorey » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:40 pm

I built this corset last year, but it looks like I never posted about it! I built it for my friend Nifer, who wore it to build the Man at Burning Man.

It's a Carhartt work corset, made of two layers of cotton twill in that particular shade of Carhartt brown. I used exterior boning casings and contrasting thread to make it look more like a real Carhartt garment. Nifer attached all the tool holsters, and they are interchangeable so she can adjust depending on what work she's doing. I used TV110 and modified it to be a straight overbust.

Thank you Heather for making a wonderful and very easy to use pattern!!

Edward Gorey's got nothing to compare to this outfit. Have to wonder what the men down on the construction site think of this :). Nice job.

That is awesome in a way I can't find words for. What a great fit! And the interchangable tool holsters are more than my uncreative brain can wrap around. She looks great!

I think the tool belt paraphenalia is actually riveted on (if I remember the Corsetmakers post right, anyway). I wouldn't expect snaps to hold against as much wear as it's likely to get.

Nope, they're heavy-duty snaps so that she can change out her tools depending on what job she's doing.

Oh, that's even better!

I'm rabid_bookwyrm on LJ - the new corsetmakers mod.

I really love the idea of constructing corsets that a) doesn't directly look like corsets but gives completely different "vibes" and b) appears in non-corset environment. Your corset really fits both both categories. I have to say that this is the coolest I've seen in a loooooong time. 8)
