What Magnus just did

Postby Soundbrigade » Thu Mar 11, 2010 8:23 am

I have had some lazy years. Some of the laziness comes from the fact that I am lazy, some from not being actively working in fabrics (no classes, no orders) and some from a series of serious events that sort have made my brain too occupied of sorting things out with 'survival'.
But today I managed to finish my first corset in two years. As I will have a corset class next weekend, I wanted to sew a corset to remember how to do it and also to know what material (steels and thir length) to order. The corset was made out of a striped material of unknown origin and unknown material but was very attractive. "On G" or "in the tube" as we say over here, are a corset I picked from a corset book (cannot recall the name) and a corset sewn out of a blue fabric covered with golden threads in an oriental fashion.

Here are pictures of the striped one (the model was lying on the sofa reading a detective story and was too busy):

PS. The pattern is TV110.

Thanks!
I have small piece of that fabric left, but I think it is just enough for an UB corset or possible a TV110 in size A.

I simply had to try out the models in Jill Salen's book Corsets and I started with the rural Corded Corset 1830-40. As I am sometimes want to advance quickly I sometimes skip the tedious work of planning and in this case I see, when the "thing" is ready that I should have paid much more attention getting the channels correct (or more correct).
I have used twisted strips of old bed linen for cords, a terrible boring and hard work.
The result could have been MUCH better and I should have paid attention to the sizing as well. Also, my wife don't like shoulder straps, so if there ever will be #2, those will come off.
