Finished vulcanologist bustle gown!

Postby shoomlah » Tue Sep 08, 2009 8:33 pm

I finished this for the San Diego Comic-Con back in July and apologize for just now getting around to posting it- you guys have been immensely helpful in everything from fabric choices to pocket sewing to skirt lengths, and I can't thank you enough for helping this come to fruition. :)

Comparison of concept to final product- cut the gaiters to avoid khaki over-saturation, and the mosquito netting... Well, I just didn't like the idea in the long run. The costume consists of a TV110 corset, TV101 bustle, TV261 underskirt, TV368 waterfall overskirt (which was drifting dangerously to the right by the end of the day), and a fully-lined and -boned TV460 cuirass bodice:

My friend Andrew and I looking generally snazzy:

...And the various accoutrements that went along with the costume:

This was quite an undertaking but, thanks to Heather's fantastic patterns and assistance, it was far less painful than it could have been. :) Lengthening the bodice, adding pockets and detailing, and shortening the skirts ended up working just as I had wanted, so yay! So glad to be done with this thing for now. :)

Love it! This turned out perfectly, and I also love all your little accessories. The neat little gizmos are always my favorite part of steampunk!

Oh, now that is really wonderful! Your finished outfit really matches the original design well and creates a very striking silhouette.

That is VERY LOVELY! I saw you got a chance to pose for the STEAMPUNK photo? I think they were trying to get a record setting picture. All the Steampunk people were on the stairs. I saw QUITE a few that I recognized.

I met you at SteamCom, during the concert, and recognized your outfit from the forum here. It really is terrific. I love the use of the bustle with a mid-length skirt. It is very creative and well executed!
