my 1870s silk dinner gown

Postby ashariel » Sat Jul 17, 2004 1:04 pm

Image

The gown is made of antique cream duchess silk satin. I used TV202 (Grand Parlor Skirt) and TV405 (Vest Basque). The skirt is flatlined with a tea stained broadcloth, and the bodice is interlined with a soft cotton drill and lined with the same broadcloth.

Some more photos of the gown:

I would have made an overskirt/apron, but 1/I was running out of time, and 2/I was shooting for an earlier look, which didn't always have an overskirt. Or at least that's what I've told myself. :P

Underneath is TV108 (Grand Bustle, with an additional ruffle sewn around the bottom edge), two TV170 petticoats, LM Silverado corset and drawers, and a chemise based on Elizabeth Stewart Clark's instructions. Here's a pic of the underpinnings.

Oh, I like that dress. Also dreaming of marring in a victorian dress (but so fare no chance to do so...). Congrats to your wedding and congrats to the wonderful dress. I am working on a Veste Basque on my on and I am nearly finished.
