Well, since I can't find my post to Josie about the awesome blue velvet we were discussing on the demode website (then the board was acting up earlier and I couldn't even find what I'm going to post again right now), here I go again with a new topic.

Please go here (it's called 1880 ensemble): ... 3_3a-c.jpg

I hyperventilate when I view this! Everyone: is this gold lace (or possible a ruffle?) at the neckline and sleeve? Heather: did they use gold lace in 1880 or could this possibly be amber ruffles? If gold lace was used, have you seen it around anywhere? (I've only seen the modern-looking costume stuff.)

Look at the underskirt. I assume it's brocade.

The hem trim looks like black fur but perhaps it's just layers of black ruching.

Well this is gold lace ..sorta, but I dont know if its a period thing. Could it be your monitor? The lace just looks like a dark cream to me, like it has aged. The bottom is probable some kind of edging effect done in the blue velvet. It is REALLY rich looking. If you cxan find a deep blue fabric/velvet like that I think gold lace would be lovely.
