That website is the best! And yes, I love that dress too. Wonderful neckline and draping on the bustle.

Only an hour?! I must have spent dozens of hours browsing through that site at work.

My eyes are still bloodshot from looking to the close to the screen at all the details!

Wow, look at this one on the right. The bodice is fitted so tightly, it looks like a corset with the chemise under it, doesn't it? Dana! Look! I found proof that ladies ran around in their corset and chemise! The woman in the picture is saying to the lady in white: I don't care what others think; I'm comfortable!

Oh wow. I love that look. I get so many compliments when I wear an underbust corset on the outside. Of course, that is just for every day and not for costuming... but still. lol

Wow, it really does look like an underbust corset with chemise. If not for the little flowers on the shoulders I'd be fooled.

Those ballgowns were about the only time (proper) women could get away with all that skin showing. I read in Victorian and Edwardian Fashions in Photographs by the author whose last name starts with a G.---Gernsheim???----a quote from a man who attended a ball saying, "I haven't seen that much cleavage since I was weaned."

(I don't particularly like the style of that blue dress, Diana. The other gal is commenting back to her that her dress was only half completed and maybe to avoid being propostioned by certain undesirable types, she ought to go back to the dressmaker and ask her to complete the task. Until then she might consider putting on a wrap.)

Dana,

There are no undesirable types at the balls. The high society balls were by invitation only. Everyone knew everyone else, so there was never any impolite remarks, as you would be held accountable.

Oh, so the gal in white is saying to the half-dressed gal, "Looking for a proposition from that desireable type over there, are you?? Way to go, chick."
