When using boning in bodices (not corsets), can you use plastic boning or do you need steel?

The plastic boning can work in a pinch. But it just doesn't work as well at the metal stays. If your bodice extends ends at the waist, the plastic will be ok. But for a bodice that extends below the waist, I would go with the steel.

TV490 extends past the waist, so I would recommend the steel stays.
