I am debating which skirt to order. I do like the French Fan skirt (because of the draping) and the Umbrella Skirt. Now, for the Umbrella skirt would you still recommend padding for underneath?
just an off handed thought as for some of the dresses I have been working on. But maybe do both skirts so you can change up the look from time to time?
I haven't bought the pattern yet and really just want one.
All 1890s skirt look best when they are stiff with padded hems. It is just what they did during that period, and it pretty much defines the style. Otherwise, the skirts tend to be limp and boring. You can compensate a little bit by making sure that you have good petticoats under your skirt. But nothing can replace the thick hem.
That is definitely different. Thank you for explaining it.
Sorry, now I have one more question. Can the 1889 Draped Skirt be made without the poufs or does it take away from the whole look of the skirt?
