Another "how to" question

I wondered how to achieve the look on the left. The skirt has the staggered pleats on the side and I also saw that on your picture for the TV 382 pattern.
I can tell how it is folded but cannot figure out how to get the different lengths.
Thanks for any help.

You want to start with a trapezoid shape, with curved top edge to make the side meet at a 90 degree angle (just like a standard gore shape), and then the bottom edge will curve up in the middle, instead of curving downwards to match the top curve.

How much the bottom curves up will determine the shortest part of the pleats. This will give you pleats that are narrow at the top, and widen out towards the hem. The hem edge can be cut to any shape you like.

Nice! Thanks Heather!!!!
How much fabric or how wide of a panel is generally required if it is added on?

I think that if the top edge was 3 times the width of the space, that should be plenty for the box pleat and then make the bottom edge 1.5 to 2 times that wide. I had 60" wide fabric, and I don't remember if I used a whole width, or not. Most likely not. But 45" seems reasonable.

Great! I was hoping 45 would be sufficient.
Thanks again Heather!
