Christine's Dressing Gown

Postby jewels » Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:11 am

Hi, I want to make Christine's white dressing gown from Phantom. Does anyone know of a pattern that I can use even if I have to alter it a bit? There are reproductions that people are making for sale but I can't afford to pay over $200 for something that i can make myself! Thanks for any ideas!! Jewels

I found this site with pics.

http://www.phantomess.com/christine/dressinggown.html

It seems like a chemise in one or two pieces, corset, and a dressing gown with bell sleeves.
This site really goes into the details.

To me this dressing gown seems like a cross between a modern robe and a period dressing gown. If you want to lean towards the period look I think that you could use the tea gown pattern without the pleating in the back and with bell sleeves. This would probably be closest to what a dressing gown from the period would look like. If you want to go this route then I would suggest looking at some museum web sites for period dressing gowns.
Here's a couple of my favs.

If you want something more like the movie version then I think I would tweak a modern pattern.

He doesn't even have to be dressed as the phantom for me to follow him willingly (with idiotic grin firmly seated on my face as well) into the catacombs . . .
