The "Make It Work" Game

Postby Sabrina Fair » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:55 am

I was thinking of starting a little game here on the forum where we'd post a fashion plate and using only the tv patterns, piece together how we'd build it. The person posting the pic would post how to formulate it, not ask for advice on how to do it but people commenting can offer changes and suggestions on what might work better.

For example I'd post this pic I got from evadress

And then I'd say how I'd build it which would be:

http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/463.html
French Bodice Back lengthened and the sleeves and inner collar

http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/460.html
Cuirass Bodice Front with the ballgown hem but the jacket upper and the jacket lower flat-patterned out to form the pleating.

http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/428.html
Cuff from the jacket bodice with the points removed

So my only question is, would people like to play and if this is the right forum for the game? What do y'all think?

I think this could be a fun idea - it's so easy to forget that we can modify patterns to make them look completely original.

I think that the French bodice is the most easy to use - you'd change the double collar for a single, blend the vest front back into the front (easy peasy to do - just cut off the seam allowances along that seam and match them up from the collar down. They should fit almost perfectly to the bust, and what's left below is the second bust dart), and fiddle with the bottom hem to lengthen it a little flat. The pleated band is applied separately and the join covered with the sash-thing. As you say, the back pleats can be manipulated easily to give the large pleats.

Yes, a reply! lol! :bounce: I really do encourage others to join in with their plates and ideas. If anything, I'll be back later today with another plate and analysis :)
