Laundry disater

Postby LovesCatsAndCostoming » Mon May 31, 2010 10:12 am

I made a dress out of red, white and blue dupioni silk. Before sewing it together, I washed each color seperatly in hot water.
I wore the dress yesterday and washed it this morning in the cold gentle cycle. Sadly, the red bled over the white and now it's bright pink. I didn't put it in the dryer.
Is there anything I can do to save it? Thank you.

Maybe try re-washing with a sheet of that colour-catcher stuff you can get in the laundry section of your supermarket?

I suspect though that it might be a touch too late for something like that!

Good luck,

My mother swears by oxyclean, but I don't know if it'll work on dyes. I also don't know if it'll destroy your silk. Just soak for a really long time, if you try it.

I would avoid Oxyclean on silk. I know it destroys wool, and since silk is another protein fiber, I would be very wary. I second the suggestion to wash again in hot water with a dye trapping sheet.
