from tissue to something better

what would be the best way to transfer a tissue pattern to something a bit thicker? something that would be easy to trace around. :D

Maybe take a pencil and cover the back side of the pattern with lead. Then flip it over onto the surface you want it transferred to, and draw along each line. The lead should be transferred from the back side onto the new paper, and you can then darken the lines with pen. ?

I really like the "pattern keeper" nonwoven Swedish tracing paper from Birch Street Clothing, as long as price isn't too much of an issue -- a 10-yard roll cost me $11. But it's great stuff, very sturdy and easy to trace.

I use dressmakers carbon paper and one of those little wheels - you can use it on fabric too for marking darts and seamlines. Mine is inherited from my gran and must be at least 30 years old, but I guess this is the same stuff

Have you tried just regular tracing paper? I buy it on the roll, 24" wide x 50yds, for about $10. A lot of different art supply or drafting supply websites sell it. I buy mine from Pearl...it's usually under tracing paper or bumwad.
