Grommet size

Postby Cjozla » Sun Aug 14, 2016 12:58 pm

Hello! I already have a nice big manual press I can use for grommet sizes. I'm not sure which size to purchase dies for. Does anyone have a recommendation for 0 vs 00, or 5mm vs 7mm?

Many thanks!

I prefer the 00 size. The smaller grommets don't need the hole to be cut, the fabric can be stretched to fit around the grommet. Which makes them more stable and less likely to pull out under stress.

Fair point. I'm getting some suspiciously varying sizes online. One said that the 00 is half inch (outer diameter) and the 0 is a quarter inch. Does that sound right to you? I thought the 00 was smaller than the 0.

You know, I found Farthingales settled the matter with both the size and inner diameter measurements. :D

0 is 6mm, 00 is 4.5mm, just in case any other newbie ever needs to know :)

Yes, the 00 is the smallest full grommet size that I am aware of. To get smaller, you end up in eyelet territory, which is a once piece hole, rather than a 2-peice grommet.
