corset mock up material

Postby Quallus » Mon Nov 09, 2015 5:19 pm

Hi Heather,
Had a question regarding mock up material for the corset. I made my mock up out of really stiff canvas. Not really too fond of this mock up and still debating on the whole sizing issue. Without the zipper I am unable to close the corset in most of the areas and I used a 3" panel for the back which makes me think that I need to change my sizing and probably should use a different material for the mock up to get a more accurate fit?
Any thoughts on that?
Thanks so much.

The canvas should be a great fabric for a mockup. Just know that the corset is supposed to fit tightly, and that it will stretch out over the first couple of wearings. So too small to start is a good thing. The bust and hip should fit fairly well, but the waist should be too small. You just want to look at proportions of bust to waist to hip, and lengths and heights at this stage. Until you get full boning and lacing into a corset, you can't really tell how it will fit.

Oh good. Just wanted to be sure I was even close. It is so different than making a bodice.
Thank you for the tips and help.
