Using hooks as front closure

Because of the way I pleated the front vested piece of a bodice, I don't want to sew buttonholes. I have sewn simple #3 size hooks overlapping the front to attach to threads (not hooks) sewn to the other piece. (The fronts do not meet in the center; they overlap.) The hooks are not staying hooked on...

Polished Cotton reporting back

I received my polished cotton sample from Payless Fabrics. Yes, it looks very much like chintz. Very shiny on one side. Not as thick as chintz.

Unfortunately their dove gray is more of a taupe tone.

TV225 FANTAIL SKIRT - PETTICOAT?

Hi Heather! I'm making another TV225 fantail skirt. I had previously made the LM train supporter (without the top bustle wires.) I would like to make a petticoat for it as well (since the train supporter doesn't have a front piece). I can't decide if it would be better to make an attached petticoat ...

Re: SULLIVAN'S QUILTING BASTING SPRAY

Let us know if you like it to hold flatlining to the fashion fabric. I would love to end the step of actually sewing the flatlining to the fashion fabric. (What a tedious process!)

COTTON SATEEN?

I'm desperately seeking silver gray cotton sateen but can only find stretch sateen online. Joann's doesn't have grey in either in my local stores. Quite frankly, I don't even think I've ever seen stretch sateen. Denver Fabrics only has GREY sateen in stretch. Has anyone ever seen silver or gray cott...

Re: GATHERING FOOT

Ha! LadyMay, you are too funny! I know I fussed and fussed with my gathering foot trying to see what works best!

OK, Heather, I agree. Best to gather and put on skirt separately (learned that after yesterday's seam ripping!)

GATHERING FOOT

Anyone have a gathering foot (that gathers and attaches to the skirt in one fell swoop)? I dislike the way the skirt fabric doesn't go all the way to the end of the ruffle piece. Even while positioning the needle to the far left, it's still not a big seam on the skirt piece. And it's really difficul...

Re: Heather: we need a new pattern!

I don't see any lapels. Isn't that just a pleated gather on either side of the velvet vest piece?

I could make it without velvet. It's the concept that I love!

So can you move it to the top of the pattern list? I would love to have it ready by the fall! Pretty please? :bounce:

Heather: if you would draft this bodice pattern, I'll be the first one in line to purchase it! http://www.metmuseum.org/Collections/search-the-collections/80002794?rpp=60&pg=7&rndkey=20120128&ft=*&when=A.D.+1800-1900&what=Costume|Cotton|Dresses&pos=420" onclick="window.open(t...

Re: VEST PIECE?

I know I've seen a fashion plate for it in the 1880s because I remember thinking "it's a bodice without sleeves; should be easy to make"....it was very form-fitting.

Re: VEST PIECE?

I know...I saw one too but can't find it now. So late 1880s would be okay? I love the look and late 1880s to early 90s is about the time period I would be doing for Rancho Los Cerritos living history....

VEST PIECE?

Does anyone have a pic or a link to a pic showing an example of a vest worn over a blouse. I can't remember what year that would have been. Similar to Jodie Foster's in Maverick.
