I thought about that but I wasn't sure it would work on the tea gown. But maybe I'll give it a shot.

Seam Finishing for sheer

I am currently making a sheer version of the tea gown that has two layers, a bottom layer that is lined with muslin and a top layer which is not lined at all. I am left in a quandary as to how to finish the seams for the top layer. I don't want to serge them since they will show. I did think about b...

Beautiful! I love the fabrics. It's times like this that I wish I could wear yellow because that shade is so nice and sunny!

Re: Alternatives for Embroidery

I need to do some embroidery for the stomacher of the gown, too, and I was planning to use floral appliques, but now I'm seriously considering ribbon embroidery. It's probably going to come down to a matter of color--whether or not I can find the right shade of embroidery ribbon. You can buy narrow...

Re: Alternatives for Embroidery

It's for Your Wardrobe Unlock'd's annual costume contest, and the deadline isn't until early 2013.

Sorry, this is slightly off topic but I have been looking everywhere for info on Your Wardrobe's next competition and couldn't find any info. Do you have a link for information on the 2013 one?

Re: Tissot Painting Corsets

Thanks Heather, and here I thought I had finally found the answer. I guess I'll just continue to make my copy of the dress with a higher lining so I can wear my normal corset. I swear if I had a time machine I would go back and accost that poor yellow dress girl to find out what she was wearing unde...

Tissot Painting Corsets

I have always wondered what the women were wearing corset wise in this painting by Tissot http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/james-tissot/remembrance-ball-on-board-1 Today I found this corset on the V&A site http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O355224/corset/ and wondered if this is what they are wea...

1880s Fshion descriptions.

I found this site today and they have scans of The Girl's Own Paper from the 1880s. Not only do they have pics of fashion but also very in depth descriptions about the gowns. http://www.mostly-victorian.com/details/fashion.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; There are also articles ...

Re: parasol help...please

If the handle is sound then maybe you can try filling in the gap with wood putty and then painting the addition? I've used wood putty for a couple of dollhouse projects. If it's not then you might need to re-enforce the handle. I broke the handle on one of my parasols and a friend is putting a pin i...

Re: Christine's Dressing Gown

To me this dressing gown seems like a cross between a modern robe and a period dressing gown. If you want to lean towards the period look I think that you could use the tea gown pattern without the pleating in the back and with bell sleeves. This would probably be closest to what a dressing gown fro...

Steampunk Inspiration

I had to post a link to this dress because it is too marvelous for words. It's not totally Victorian but I thought it would be a great jumping off point for a Steampunk outfit. http://en.my7475.com/639.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);ret...

Wow 12 yards of wool for $10. I am jealous. Glad I'm not the only one who can't do the tall, tight collars.

I admit the high collar would kill me but other than at it's stunning. The ribbon work pannels are completely awe inspiring.

It's so disheartening when things get pushed back or worse when people come to you at the absolute last moment. I hope that she follows through and understands your restrictions for the timeline.
