Re: A Request for Help

Oh, no Heather, copy away. I would love it if you made an 1880s polonaise. Your patterns go together so easily and can be adapted so well that it's easier than drafting my own. Plus, I should probably finish the 3 projects I already have started. So, as much as I want to dive into this I have decide...

A Request for Help

I am not sure if I am asking this question in the right place or not, so feel free to move it if you need to. I am absolutely in love with this dress http://pinterest.com/pin/457678380851812868/ which was worn by the wife of Albert Bartholomé in his portrait In the Conservatory . It is currently on ...

Re: What to do with this fabric!

I saw that fabric and immediately thought of this gown http://www.metmuseum.org/Collections/search-the-collections/80003822?rpp=20&pg=1&ft=C.I.39.68++++++++++++++++&pos=1 I'm not sure if you have enough for it but it's where my mind went.

Re: The Great Hat/Bonnet Debate

Yes, it is the bonnet pattern you posted. Not sure why the links worked like that but here it is again http://www.lynnmcmasters.com/BustleBonnet.html. I keep going back and forth too and my friends are equally divided.

The Great Hat/Bonnet Debate

I am having a debate with myself. I am making this dress in purple gingham http://www.bustledress.com/cgi-bin/z.pl/item.lisa0001-20090415-01.html And I can't decide if I should make Hat B from this pattern http://www.lynnmcmasters.com/BustleHat.html Or bonnet B from this one http://www.lynnmcmasters...

Had to share

I found this stunning bustle Era wedding gown on Ebay today. I was so amazing that I HAD to share it! I would buy it myself in a heartbeat if I had the money :!: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Vtg-VICTORIAN-ENGLISH-HONITON-LACE-SILK-BUSTLE-WEDDING-GOWN-BRIDAL-DRESS-/150978195141?pt=LH_DefaultDomain...

Re: Skirt question

Thanks Heather. I had the skirt pulled up question because when I blow the picture up to it's largest size it looks like all the gathering for the apron is underneath the train and that's why I thought that maybe they just pulled up the skirt and gathered it there. But what you say makes complete se...

Skirt question

I love the look of the overskirt on this dress and keep going back and forth on how it is made. I am torn between thinking it is a skirt that is gathered up in the back or an apron and back drape. Any ideas would be appreciated. http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/auguste-toulmouche/the-ticket

Re: New Ballgown

Thank you for all the compliments everyone. I really love how the ball gown turned out. I'm not sure how often I'll get to wear it but I wanted it so I made it :D . It's funny, I keep making bustle gowns but really don't have anywhere to wear them to. If anyone has any ideas near Tucson, Az I would ...

Combos question

Is it possible to make the combos so that they unbutton at the shoulders to go under an off the shoulder ballgown bodice?

Re:

For the flowers, I bought regular silk flowers, yanked the heads off the stems and hand sewed them on by attaching the base of the petals to the fabric. I look a little freaky (cheap wig, fangs and white contact lenses!) but here I am in it: http://malotky.pho.to/albums/vampire_ball/s_101.jpg http:...

Re: Fabric Color

I like the bright blue too. You could also use some black velvet ribbon or silver/grey accents in addition to the white lace to give the dress a bit more dimension (sorry, I see colors and my mind starts running wild :D ). Are you going to copy the fruit bordering as well or replace it with lace? T...

Harper's Bazaar Online

I found copies of Harper's Bazaar from 1867 - 1900 online at this site http://hearth.library.cornell.edu/h/hearth/browse/title/4732809.html.

I was so excited I had to share with all of you! I haven't gotten through all of the volumes yet but am slowly making my way through them.

For her birthday this year my friend is having an End of the World party, since her birthday just happens to fall on Dec 21. The dress code is wear what you would most want to be found in if this was in fact the last night of the world. I, of course, have settled on a bustle ball gown (what could be...
