Hi lmboeckl,
I really like your dress! Is that really your first victorian gown? I particularly love the roses and gathers on the side and also your butterfly fabric! What a great gown.

Gemma, I would love to hear more about you making the mantle from that internet pattern... I've seen these before but have never dared attempt actually making a full-size garment out of one? How did you find it? How did you get the proper measurements for it to fit you? And sadly, I could not see th...

Thank you for all the suggestions ladies! So only working class women wore shawls?? I wondered about making a thick kind of stole to wrap around my shoulders.... Or I might yet get a capelet pattern on which I could put a fur(like) collar. Though maybe you don't need a pattern for a capelet? Seems a...

What to wear in cold weather?

Hi, we are hoping to attend some christmas events in November and December and I was wondering what a lady would wear on top of her gown? I know Heather has a couple of patterns for a mantle and a wrap in the early bustle catalog... but I would like to know what you ladies here do in practice? If yo...

Thank you very much! Urban Gipsy, I thought I might need some alterations, but I needed none whatsoever. Apart from using a 13in busk instead of a 14in one as suggested because I am a bit short-waisted. I sized it as she explains on the pattern and the fit was great! But really what I like most is t...

An update...

As soon as I wrote about the bones, I realised of course that's what the problem was... so straight back to the sewing machine I went and added more boning in the bust area and as you can see, it solved all the wrinkle problems! The pattern did say: "more bones better than fewer" - I shoul...

Easiest New Corset!

Hi all, Just finished Heather's corset pattern and I am really impressed with it! Soooo much easier than the other corsets I've made so far (this is my 6th one I think). The sizing is much simpler to figure out and I LOVE the construction method - I made it in a few hours only. There are a few wrink...

Looks beautiful! I particularly like the pink coutil - where did you find that? I've only seen black and white. I made a Past Patterns Edwardian Corset, and that was hard work too!
Well done.

Thank you ladies for the kind comments. I really enjoyed making it for her. Now my 9 year-old is desperate for a new dress too. Just got some fabric today for her. And then there's the boys.... Tiffers, thanks, as you can see I'm working my way through slowly. Though for the boys, I will hopefully b...

Polonaise for Young Lady

Hi, Last week I made the polonaise for my 12 year-old to attend a village fête and I must say what a great pattern it is! Before I started I thought, oh dear, another of my crazy ideas (only had 2 days to make it) but it went together really well even with having to make some adjustments in the fitt...

Thank you ladies. So if you have a reticule, would you just wear it around your wrist all day long? I was wondering whether you could hang that from your belt to free your hands... maybe along with a fan (as I think it's going to be a hot day)?

Châtelaines...

Do you wear one with your gowns? And what do you hang from it? I have a lovely silver aide-mémoire but am now wondering if it is safe to carry it around with me hanging on a châtelaine... Or should I just hang my little crocheted reticule?

Hat TV 551 - Anyone made it?

Hi all,
Has anyone made Heather's hat? I'd love to see some pictures of it made up (apart from the one that is with the pattern which looks very nice).

Bonjour Cathi-Joëlle, On ne rencontre pas souvent des Joëlles, c'est un plaisir. (Cathi, c'est pour Catherine?) Je suis Canadienne-Française (de Québec) mais mon mari est Anglais moi aussi. I didn't know there was a festival in Bath and I only live 40 minutes away. I will check it out for next year....

Bonjour Cathi, J'ai pu voir la photo de ta robe en allant à la galerie mais elle n'apparaît malheureusement pas dans ton message (j'ai même essayé moi-même de copier le lien mais sans succès). It's a beautiful gown, what fabrics are you going to use? I particularly like the bodice closure at the fro...
