This may or may not work, but have you ever cut skirts out so that the waist is on the selvage edge so it's already finished?

Have you ever just folded down the top edge of a skirt and sewed it directly onto a petersham ribbon to try to get a historical technical effect?

This is a really great thread about a question that is often asked when I go out with my dresses on. However, I have a second question; I've noticed that even cinched down as far as I can go(depending on the time of month) my skirt waistbands and bodice add what feels to be a ton of extra inches aro...

I only did one mock up of the corset to get the shape for the bosom right, how much to curve it in and where. But I've made the pattern at least three times I think now, so I know how it goes together pretty easily. I added extra inches in the back panel to make it close all the way so she wouldn't ...

Thank you! Here's the back-- I didn't add enough boning to the back so it "ripples" http://www.pictage.com/photodisplay/PHOTODISPLAY/get_emailed_image_info.xml?producer=photodisplay&code=QN5QOVK0V8K5R9LL1C7H&xsl=/xsl/v3/emailed_image.xsl&scan=85&event=313634&registratio...

Don't forget to put boning in between the channels, it helps smooth things out if there is a lot of space between the pattern edges.

TV110 is a wonderful pattern for corsets. I just made it up for a friend's wedding dress and I just added four inches for the top and curved it back in to get an over the bust look. http://www.pictage.com/photodisplay/PHOTODISPLAY/get_emailed_image_info.xml?producer=photodisplay&code=VHGNZMG2G9F...

I don't see why you can't. Queen Victoria had a gold monogram sewn onto all of her underthings and many women often had there insignias stitched into their clothes if they sent them out to be washed.

Wow! This is almost like Heather's old game! hahaha!

But yeah, I'd agree that this is mid 1870's. This dress might even work well with the LM trained bustle underneath it too.

A good suggestion might be to do the lower class dress first as you get used to the construction of a Victorian garment, any errors will be character points for a lower income dress. Remember, this is the begining of the industiral revolution and it infuriated the upper class people that the lower c...

I am reallly curious about the polonaise too. What bustle do you recommend for it, does it matter? And then I guess what underskirt? Can you give a recommondation as to what fabrics look best with this too?

I just finished watching The Little Princess with Shirley Temple and the dress looks like something Miss Michen would have worn, very elegant, proper and lavish. Very nice work!

I wear mine every so often out and about. I went to a craft show last year in full bustle and that was fun. A few people were giving demos dresses in Lewis and Clark so I didn't get alot of attention. I have wandered around town in bustle gowns, riding public transport, that was fun!

yeay! I am planning on doing it in a red/black changable taffeta or a dark purple that I found for only a $1/yd. I fear the two will dissappear in bad lighting, but both are reasonably priced. How do you figure the back closing is? I cannot tell if they were trying to hide a zipper or something. Als...

Maverick dress

I am in love with the green dress Jodi Foster wears towards the end of Maverick and unfortunately, they only have three minutes of screen time for this wonderful dress. I have the basic idea of how it is made, but there is little shots of it that show actual detail, like the front is constantly blur...
