Re: Almost finished outfit

I think the pink is lovely with your skin tone and hair. I like the peplum look. I just did the 400 bodice with the long front but I wasn't sure I would like the gathered back so I re-drafted it to a basque back. I'll definitely do the peplum next time, based on how nice yours looks! edit to add: I...

Do these fabrics go together?

I'm usually very good at this so when I'm not sure I need second and third opinions and the hubby is staying out of it. http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=8812 I know the pink goes very well with both the cotton velvet (the top fabric) and the darker ...

Almost finished outfit

I've almost completed the first outfit out of cheep JoAnn's calico. (I need to sew the rest of the hooks and eyes on the bodice and I decided to line the overskirt so I need more fabric to complete it.) But here it is. http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_item...

Re: Hat making questions

Bias tape is cut on the bias. I have a 1/2" 1" and a 2" bias tape maker but you still have to cut the fabric and I was asking if I could cut with the grain as opposed to on the bias. I love my tape makers.=) That is a good question. How do you chose between Small and Large? What is th...

Hat making questions

I just got TV 550 today and I'm anxious to start but have a few questions. 1. Can another type of wire be used instead of millinary wire? Like copper wire or some such? And if so what gauge wire is needed? 2. Does it have to be bias tape or can binding cut in straight strips work as well? 3. Was cal...

Re: Finally finished the corset

Thanks. PS Mary- the lace on both the corset and chemise are from JoAnns so probably available near you. The only thing I did differently, to Heather's chemise pattern, was instead of hemming the the neckline was to make binding with an 1 inch bias tape maker (though I didn't cut the strips on the b...

Finally finished the corset

So I finished the corset last night after the husband went to bed but since I was up and made him breakfast before work he snapped a few pictures for me. The corset is grey cotton duck with white cotton twill binding, the spiral steel wires in all the chanels and a front busk. http://trulyvictorian....

Re: Need help figuring out which size for TV110

So I cut the top size I A cup, waist size J and hip size I (I misremembered Heather's suggestion) and finally I was able to get the corset sewen together and boning in the chanells to check the fit and it fits perfectly with about an inch and half (or so my husband estimates) gap all the way down. I...

Re: I suppose i should introduce myself

He rolls his eyes at all of it but doesn't stop me from making what I want to.=) He just thinks all of it is unnessisarily complicated and unpractical but if it makes me happy . . . =)

I suppose i should introduce myself

Now that I've run all over the board and asked for help, I think I should actually get around to introducing myself. (Backwards, I know but I'm like that.) I'm Sarah and I live in the beautiful Willamette Valley, actually in the heart of the Yamhill County Wine Country. I've always loved the Victori...

Trouble with Step 3 on TV110

Let me just say I've been sewing for sometime and usually when making a new pattern there is one step that I just can't wrap my brain around. This time it is step 3 on the sewing the corset together. I get the matching the fronts and linings together but with the WRONG sides together? I'm missing so...

New Chemise

I finally finished something- my chemise. Here's a picture. (I'm wearing it over my street clothes because it is more than a wee chilly up in my sewing room.
