My guess would be 1880s... the row of closely spaced buttons on her bodice really suggest it, as well as the very close sleeves and mannish collar. Maybe 1884? A larger photo would be lovely:) I too have a photo of my great grandmother, from the 1890s so I'm trying to pin down some more info on her ...

Comparing it to the dresses and hats in my Girl's Own annuals I'd have to say 1908ish.. a few years either side. The tall hat with largish brim and the more severe lines of the dress suggest the later dates:)

The combinations I've had a chance to feel were definitely a fine linen:) And the leg ruffles were an even looser and finer weave. It was halfway between the two fine linens I have, so possibly really well washed and used hanky weight;) There were added gussest in the sides, but I couldn't tell if t...

What can I say, I love pleats;) I have a couple more SCA dresses that will be fully pleated like this as well;)

And then there's the Mina Red Dress later in the year as well.... It's a good thing I can handsew again...;)

Unfortunately no;) I'm going to Midwinter Coronation here in Lochac (Australia and New Zealand) in about three or four weeks... I think three and a half;) It's a big project... it's a dress Anne of Cleves would have worn if she had've stayed in Cleves until the later years of her life;) http://costu...

Thanks everyone :) I'm in the throes of a really intensive SCA project, so I may have to get better photos after the event it's for. I do though have a photo of the drapes as I was pinning them to shape, so that gives an idea at least of how they look. It was before I decided to sew the tufted braid...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qq2i9B2F_s It doesn't help too much, but you can sort of see the stripes and how the skirt moves. I apologise, I hadn't sung solo in public and especially not that space for years. Not really since 1998 actually. Lots of little bits here and there, but not a singing c...

Those are very interesting pictures. Worthy of thinking on for a while. I'm not sure though that it can be said she is layered in the way most common. Which she;)? There were three of them.. though admittedly one with her head accidentally cut off... eep;) Jenn, I'm not sure why you mentioned the V...

Right, got them ready for online. Thisis the series of photos showing a woman taking her clothes off. In the first her petticoat is over the corset (it's hard to see the top of her chemise as the straps have pulled down over her arms) in the second she is unhooking the busk and you can see her chemi...

I have two "naughty" items that show thet the chemise was indeed worn inside. One of these is a series of photos of a women taking her clothes off, the other is a series of drawings of a woman putting her clothes on. I'm pretty sure the drawings were from a naughty magazine but the women taking her ...

Guesstimation;) I work out how many pleats I want to show, or how much of the face of the pleat I want to show. For many of my skirts it's about 1cm. Which means I have about 70-75 pleats (depending on coset of eating habits that month;) ) so I divide my skirt material into 70-75 even sections, roun...

Nifty! I wish I'd have a plainer fabric to start with as I love what I did with my stencil, but on the fabric I had it was just too busy.

Can't wait to see it finished:)

For an example.. My Wishing Dress bodice was only boned with cable ties;) I will be honest, it looks better with the soft support long term if you wear it over something that takes most of the strain off*. I mean hey, these bodices for the most part were bones with baleen which in strips like this i...

Thank you everyone:) Drusilla: I still have blue under my fingernails and around my cuticles;) Sumalee: I understand, I had a two week break because I overdid it with sewing all the pleatings in two days. I wrecked my wrist (again) and it made me very depressed to even think about it;) Orianna: That...
