Re: Shop advice for San Francisco

If you are interested in lace, I cannot recommend the Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles highly enough. They are located in Berkeley (that is, across the Bay), easily accessible via BART (public transit) from SF, and have wonderful things for sale as well as exhibit space - lace, of course, but also ...

Re: Newbie From Western Washington (State, That Is)

Hi Amused, I had great fun at a Seattle steampunk convention last year -- SteamCon. Everyone was very friendly, and the costumes were divine. If you ever find yourself in the San Francisco Bay area, I recommend the Great Dickens Christmas Fair at the Cow Palace in December, and Dr. Erasmas P. Kitty'...

Edwardian ball

Did I see some of you lovely ladies at the Edwardian Ball in San Francisco last weekend? Sadly, about the only thing I didn't have time to do was take pictures, but it was still a grand event.

How lovely! Did you win anything? Even a hall-costume ribbon usually makes my event.

Re: Arisia 2010: Cambridge MA, Jan 15-18

I used to go to Arisia in the late '80s/early '90s, when I lived in Vermont. It was always a good time.
Ah, memories.

I like the tea gown idea, too. It's such a great pattern. I'm going to make the yellow silk one, I promise!

I did, in fact receive a spam message here recently, for what it's worth. Is that a common experience?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that the Silverado version was better for bustier figures.

As soon as I remember what I had up before, I will delete and re-post. Thanks, everyone, for the info.

Gallery issue

Not sure where to post this one: is anyone else having trouble with the gallery? I got a new computer for Christmas, and now my page as well as several other folks' pages appear "broken" to me. As I am not technologically literate, I will accept that it may just be me, but... how do I fix ...

Indeed it is! A simple, lovely garment that every lady should have in her wardrobe, IMHO. Went together like a dream!

What I did over Thanksgiving holiday

So I chickened out on cutting the yellow silk, and also on the crushed velvet gloves. Instead, I made this out of some "stash" fabric I had tucked away. It needs a final press and it's done! And, I survived the "swine flu" (if the gown looks a little loose, it's because I lost qu...

My husband said no.
If I were going, I have a brand-new mint-green Natural Form dress to wear, or my usual hoopskirt (double skirt) in burgundy with blue stripes.
Have some iced almonds for me!

I'm going to make a brave attempt to talk my spouse into going, or letting me go by myself (no promises). The costume director is one of my best friends, and I haven't seen her in ages. Plus Dickens always helps to kick-start my Christmas spirit -- I'm in retail, it needs all the help it can ...

That same issue has a glove pattern and instructions that I'm dying to play with! I picked up some green crushed velvet and will probably take a run at it over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Is this the ball at the Museum of Technology? I'm jealous! When I did TV462 with the evening neckline, I kept the collar and added a ruffle the rest of the way around, attaching the ruffle to the ends of the collar. This also helped hold the collar up (it had come out soft and floppy, which was not ...

The only actual period buttons I've ever gotten to handle, myself, were surprisingly modern-looking (at Lacis, iirc). Yours are very pretty, they should go great!
