Okay, I give up

Hi all, Someone had posted a fantastic period paper on what colors went with what, sometime in the last year (or two?). I thought I had saved it to my computer, but I cannot find it for the life of me, and no, sorry, I do not remember what it was called. :bang: It had all sorts of helpful tips... if...

Re: Tea Gown yardage

This may sound funny, but I imagine it would vary by size. I'm reasonably sure I've squeaked the tea gown out of 5+ yards before. I'm generally a size F.

Re: Technical difficulties

Ah well, I appreciate your attempts to make the unworkable work. Technology really is a pain in the neck sometimes.... I shall find another way to post pics of my orange and blue day dress. :)

Technical difficulties

Not sure where to put this one: is the gallery having difficulties again? It seems to have lost some of my pics, and when I tried to upload some new photos today, someone else's pictures kept showing up.
Help?

Re: Future silk?

Thanks for sharing, SarahS! I love reading stuff like this.
I have often tried to explain to my husband why silk is so expensive, yet so worth it, by saying, "But honey... silkworms died so I could have it!"

Inspiration

All of your hard work has inspired me to update my gallery pics. There are some of the yellow silk tea gown I've been on about for a month of Sundays: click for image And some of the silver taffeta bustle gown, parts of which have been done for ages, which is finally finished: click for image Thanks...

Re: Idea for Steam Punk Outfit

Cute outfit, can't wait to see how it turns out! You asked about fabrics. If you're on a budget (and who isn't these days?) you may be tempted to knock the whole thing out in polyester and rayon. But if you run warm, or you intend to wear this lovely outfit in a warm environment like, oh I dunno, a ...

Re: TV 416 again

Thank you both -- now that I've had a decent night's sleep, this all makes perfect sense. I like Gemma's idea of closing the peplum with hooks or snaps, and I like Heather's idea of not having to put the bodice on over my head (not the easiest thing to do without assistance). I'll post pics when it'...

TV 416 again

Okay, it's late and my brain won't turn over: suppose one is trying to make TV 416 with a back lacing. One must bone the center back, or the lacing will collapse, correct? If so, what about the peplum bit at the bottom -- that is, where does the boning stop? If one bones from the top center back ope...

Re: Corset dress - how to?

Yup, Dark Garden, Linden Street, SF. The proprietor (proprietress?) is Autumn Carey Adamme.

My everyday corset came from Dark Garden. They do very, very nice work.

Re: Where is a good place to buy Victorian shoes?

Maybe it's me (or my Mac) but "store entrance" link on the My Vintage Sole site does not work. They have beautiful shoes, but it isn't much good if you can't buy them....

Re: Bodice Boning

I'm a smallish human, 5'2" tall, and I wear a US size 10/12. That said, I find that steel adds a lot of weight to a bodice and makes it less comfortable. Moreover, I personally think that Farthingales' German plastic boning doesn't suck; I think that smaller/slighter figures can get away with i...

Re: fabrics online

Fashion Fabrics Club is screamin' cheap, if you have time and patience: http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/ The usual caveats around buying fabric online do apply (the color shown on your computer monitor may or may not resemble the color of the actual fabric, etc.), but I've gotten awesome silks fro...

Re: from tissue to something better

I really like the "pattern keeper" nonwoven Swedish tracing paper from Birch Street Clothing, as long as price isn't too much of an issue -- a 10-yard roll cost me $11. But it's great stuff, very sturdy and easy to trace.

Re: stockings?

They aren't for everyday, certainly. But after making my own wedding dress and petticoat, doing my own flowers, etc. etc., I figured I was due for a treat. :) I have never seen a fabric quite as fine for sale anywhere. They are like nylon pantyhose fabric, only lighter, softer, slightly less stretch...

Re: stockings?

I bought silk stockings for my wedding day here: http://hosieree.com/products/CChampsElysees.html
They're verrry nice, but not very cheap.
