Re: Empress Elisabeth Of Austria: Velvet And Mink

This is beautiful. I'd love to make something like that but could never be able to wear it in our hot So. Calif weather. You did an awesome job. Val Thanks, Val! Funny you should mention warmth; it was actually pretty warm the day we did the above photos, but I was fairly comfortable (and I'm in No...

Re: Empress Elisabeth Of Austria: Velvet And Mink

Thanks so much, David! My family is German/Austrian and I practically grew up learning about 'Sisi'. She was a rather integral part of my childhood, and one of the reasons I began sewing and costuming ;-) Usually it's not the waist that makes a skirt look fuller, it's the opposite. Victorian fashion...

Empress Elisabeth Of Austria: Velvet And Mink

It's been a long while since I last posted in this forum. Being too busy to really finish a project as big as this one hasn't helped much, but one of my new year resolutions is to change that. Not just 'try' to, but to do it. This is my version of a winter ensemble worn by The Empress Elisabeth Of A...

1845 German Day Dress: Altered For 1850

Hi there :-) It's been a long while since my last post here, but I finally have photos to post of my latest project; The gown I made for this year's Dickens Fair in San Francisco. I've posted a link to the post in my sewing blog, where you can find the rest of the photos. http://austrianwoman.blogsp...

Thanks Bookwyrm!
They look like a great source for other gold-work supplies too.

Re: Those tiny metal sequins?

Thanks Rangerfeline!
That shop is just up the street from my place of work.
I'll have to head up there on Wed. after work and take a look, since they close @ 4pm on Mondays.

Those tiny metal sequins?

Hello all, Wondering if you could help me find, or know of a good source for small metal sequins (also known as 'paillettes'). I seem to recall there was a website that carried all kinds of them in various colors, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I saw that MJ Trim has them, but ...

Absolutely horrible. They need to straighten out their knowledge of centuries too. The 1800s are known as the 19th century, 1700s the 18th century, and so on. *sigh* But, what should we expect from China. This kind of thing isn't just happening to the Victorian costuming crowd, but the WWII reenacto...

Very nice, even better than the source I was using.

It may need to also be noted that you need a business license in order to shop with them. They require a tax ID # at checkout.

Spring Cleaning!

**Edited to add: All hats have sold as of 4/20/09** (I hope this is ok to post here, if not I will remove it promptly) I'm having a sale on the remaining hats in my Etsy shop. These are mostly hats of an 18th century style, but there are a few Victorian styles. My Lady Lyndon hat could also w...

We stole a time machine, and had our photographs taken...

First off; I had to start a new account here, since I'd forgotten my password and it was attached to an old email I no longer have. Weekend before last, my sweetheart and I sat for some Daguerreotypes and Tintypes. Taken in 1888? Try 2008, with photographer Eric Mertens. http://www.thedaglab.com The...
