Finished at last...

A wile ago I came accross this image and fell in love with it http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=8702 It sat in the back of my mind until I found a beautiful embroidered cotton in one of my local fabric stores. My version of this dress is nowhere near...

Re: Victorian Clothing for the Very Large

I would just like so second Tiffers about the corset, although not big myself, I have made lots of corsets for larger ladies, and find that, in general they look so much better on them than on thinner ladies, I have also been told by these ladies, that they provide much more support and are much mor...

Re: Why ? Corset

Sorry, I know this was from a while ago... Actually I think it may not be to do with the corset at all, when you sit (as compared to when you are standing) the position tends to make your shoulders tend to roll forwards slightly, normally there wouldnt really be a noticable effect on your bust, but ...

Re: Sad news about one of our UK members

I have been trying to get to events to meet up with other UK members including Louisa for a couple of years but for various reasons never have, and now sadly I will never have the oportunity to get to meet her. My heart goes out to all her family and friends.

Re: Can we get this look today?

Another point to consider is the styling of the dresses tend to over emphasise the waist reduction, for example the neck line in the first photo and the gathering/poofing of fabric at the top of the sleeve makes the shoulder look wider than it is, and the volume of skirts make the hips look broader,...

The blue (if I'm not mistaken) is based on a dress belonging to Queen Maude from about 1910

Sorry, should have made myself a little clearer, just really posted the link as I thought the images may give you ideas on construction for thicker leather. Hope it goes well.

I've never made a thick leather corset myself (I've done garment leather and lined it, in which case I just trested the leather as I would fabric) but I have seen some made up, have a look at http://www.bruteforceleather.com/store/ ... ategory=37

In my opinion coutil is the ideal fabric for corsets as it has virtually no stretch while also not being bulky. When I started making corsets I did not have access to coutil and used canvas instead and it worked pretty well, if you are making a corset for occational wear then I think the canvas shou...

I have used normal (flexible) busks, rigid wide busks, rigid conical busks and spoon busks and in my opinion what to use depends on the final shape you want to achieve and the figure of the person to start with. For myself (approx 36" bust, 20" waist and 35" hips corsetted) I normally...

I can remember when two events in two weeks seemed like a lot... There was Whitby, back in work for two days, then an event in the Lake district, this weekend in Devon, next weekend is TORM and a wedding, the weekend after is Ludlow Medieval Christmas market. One of these days I will manage a weeken...

You have probably already thought of this, but can you send a personal message to the person whose photos they are? That sounds like it might work, I have friends in London and family just north of London, so I will have a look at my diary and see if I can fit in a trip down there to see everyone. Perhaps we could fit in a trip to a museum or afternoon tea? (I probably shouldnt say this, but we could always go fa...

Where about are you based? I am probably heading down south to visit friends later in the year, so if I end up in your neck of the woods maybe we could meet up then?

UK meet up?

Well as the visit to Braemore seem to have fallen through until next year at least, and as I couldnt make it to Llandrindod wells, does anyone in the UK fancy trying to meet up sonewhere during the autumn? If anyone else is going I shall be at the Whitby Gothic weekend at the end of October (I will ...
