Re: TV 454 German Day Dress - First dress ever!

SarahS, if you could kindly let me know where I can get one of those!!! I've got a wedding dress to sew for myself before October... I imagine it'd probably be a good idea to get an early start on it... but a Time-Turner couldn't hurt!

Re: TV 454 German Day Dress - First dress ever!

Good call with the petticoats, SarahS - I'm wearing exactly one skirt, and it's not a petticoat so much as a skirt I already owned that added a bit. It DEFINITELY needs petticoats! I just didn't get them made before the deadline. A corded one in particular would have been wonderful.

TV 454 German Day Dress - First dress ever!

I made this dress for my church's 160's anniversary celebration on the first Sunday of May - but I've finally got around to sharing what I accomplished with you all! With HUGE thanks to the clear and wonderful TV454, I chugged along on my grandmother's old Elna sewing machine to produce... (drumroll...

Ugh. Grommets are done! Here're the pictures of it all laced up (over a nightgown, 'cause I'm sassy) *Can't seem to make the pictures work, so links will have to do* http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3303 http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g...

Thanks SarahS, but I'm in Canada - we don't have Harbor Freight Tools here! I did however snag a pair of tin snips from a neighbour, and will very soon get around to chopping the boning to the proper size. As for an update, I very nearly have all the grommets in, and I got more excited when I laced ...

valleyviolet - I can't lace it up because it isn't that far along!! I don't have any boning in it yet, and I don't have any grommets either.

Urban Gypsy - Thanks for the tip. I have, however, found a little blog entry online that has someone using tin snips to cut their busk (quite successfully, it seems), so I am going to try to do that first. As for the gap at the back, no it's pretty sizeable - about 4". I just have wide fingers ...

Yes, well, this isn't a mock-up I'm talking about now. This is my coutil. So I think the game plan is to chop off the top and bottom fastening.

KaitlynDawn - that's the thing: I -did- a mock-up. Which is why this is just a little frustrating.

tinman - haven't even got to the boning yet, so that's no worries. I guess I -could- just cut the busk down... I like that idea.

This means I have to a) buy a new busk and b) redo the front panels, doesn't it?

britt - I've just started as well! I bought the Natural Form underwear kit, which includes the combination underwear, the corset, and a petticoat pattern. I've finished the combination underwear (just sewing on snaps) and am going to tackle the corset next. I found Heather's patterns so far to be ve...

Looks good :) Try it with a corset over before deciding to put in darts. I have a friend who corsets down to 19" and I dont think her combi's have darts in. I made up the seperate drawers and chemise TV patterns and while there is plenty of material in the chemise, its not noticable when I hav...

Oh, yay - THANK YOU, Heather!

I think 30E is pretty ridiculous myself, since I'm really not very large, but it fits. So I was confused.

I will definitely look at those links you posted. Thanks again!
