Re: Combining types of fabric

If you already have matching cottons, they could work great as the flatlining and lining of your silk garments. I do this so that I don't have light-coloured threads poking out of my dark bodice when I cut my buttonholes. I also always flatline my silk skirts. I find today's silks are much lig...

TV 326 Hermione missing pattern piece

Hello! I'm an idiot and apparently didn't correctly pack the pieces to my pattern. My back panel must be mixed in to something else and I can't find it. Could some EXTRAORDINARILY helpful person please give me some basic measurements for that rectangle, and a general idea of the pleat placement? :ba...

Re: Ironing silk taffeta

This is probably a huge no no, but I iron my silk taffeta on high with loads of steam. I get most everything out, especially after I flatline with quilting cotton.

TVE21 Trumpet in plaid

Sooo...would it be a better idea to do the circular skirt in plaid? I was going to do the trumpet, but now I am concerned that the un-matchy seams will be weird. Thanks!

Re: How do we feel about darts in the Armscye?

Well. Who knew?! Of course if I was still in the fitting process and not making the finished bodice I would totally do this. :P I will save the info for next time. Thank you very much Heather. :)

How do we feel about darts in the Armscye?

I am making a bodice for a friend that has radically different breast sizes. Everything fits great, but I need to dart the armscye. Is this a thing? Of course the bodice is taffeta, so I guess there isn't a way to make it not show. :-/ Any advice would be lovely. I searched for quite awhile and foun...

Re: Finished grey bustle gown

Thank you, mgbetz and m d b. I worked for sometime to get it where I liked it. If I'd been able to buy more of that gorgeous cut velvet at the time, those tabs would have been fuller, but since I basically had about 2 yards, and it isn't a symmetrical pattern, I did what I could. :-) The hat is a gr...

Re: Finished grey bustle gown

Thanks Heather! I don't mind the suggestion at all. It is actually on my to-do list to change the buttons. I used those last minute because the ones I'd planned on using actually looked awful once I received them...the day before the event. It never occurred to me to use velvet! I will totall...

Finished grey bustle gown

I was finally able to finish this grey late-bustle gown I've been working on for three years! :-) I just couldn't figure out how to do the bodice for the longest time, but I eventually had a moment of inspiration and I thought I would share the results. I bought the cut-velvet first and have been ho...

Gah! I hate not knowing where my books are. I'm so sorry. I took a couple pictures with my phone. I'll try uploading them here for you. I hope they worked. Thanks so much!!

TV 382 over the skirts in your product photo

Hi Heather, I am trying to make a skirt set, very similar to the skirts you're wearing under this asymmetrical drape. I have a pattern-ish on pg 186 of Director Revival Fashion in Francis Grimble's book, but I must have lost my Victorian notations babblefish. I just can't seem to make sense of how t...

1880's hat question

Hello, Do you think I would be able to extend one side of brim to make it more asymmetrical? Like the lady on the far left of this fashion plate. Thanks!

Re: Dickens Victorian Village - Ohio Event

Oh, fantastic! That's plenty of time, and I could probably attend. December is always hard around Christmas, but a Twelfth Night Ball could be fun, if you're looking for ideas, When you decide a historical theme, let me know and I can start designing. Thanks so much for the kind words, maybe a...

Re: Dickens Victorian Village - Ohio Event

Sweet! Hopefully I'll have enough warning to make an appropriate dress! :-)

Will it be before April? Columbus is only 90 minutes away, so I and the husband could get there easily. Oh, I'm excited!

Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Dickens Victorian Village - Ohio Event

Well bummer. Not that I could have gone, since I won't be home to Akron until the beginning of Dec, but it looks like it would be fun. Thanks for posting stuff that near where I live. :-) Hopefully one will happen when I'm around! :-D

Oh!

I would not have thought of that. I would have just been aggravated later. I want to wear a men's tie with the shirt, so I want it fairly snug.
Thanks so much! You're the bestest!

Re: E41 Blouse with collar

Thanks Heather,

I want to do a fall collar on the stand collar that is already there. I was just unsure if it needed any special shaping. I am glad that that is not the case.
Thanks!!
