I have... quite often, now that I think about it. :-) Most recently was at the Portland Rose Garden. I was there in one of my bustle gowns while everyone else around me was in jeans and t-shirts. A few little girls and even a few boys asked a lot of questions about my dress and wanted a photo taken ...

Do you have any suggestions about good books et.c. for someone who wants to start making hats? I know there are a lot out there, but it is hard to know which ones are worth buying and reading. What did you do when you were new to hat-making to learn more about it? I read on your "myspace"...

Nope, no patterns.
I think the only thing I traced to get a perfect circle for the brims (including the tricorn before turning up the sides) was a dinner plate, then enlarged or reduced the circumference to suit each hat.

Wow, thanks again ladies!

To answer the questions:

Yes, I made all of the hats for each gown including the one in the first photo.

The lace on the fucshia gown is from a vintage altar robe and is silk (look closely and you can see the little crosses woven into the border).

You are stunning and so is your ensemble. And what a gorgeous steed!
That first photograph reminds me of some taken of royalty when they would pose in their hunt costume.

The Edwardian turned out gorgeous, and I'm so glad I can at least see photos of the pink and black net gown I missed out on seeing in person.

Thanks everyone!

Heather: That is indeed the fucshia faille from fashion fabrics club, and I bought a ton of the deep purple/plum as well. It's going to be an 1881 natural form evening/ball gown since I have about 8 yards of the stuff.

XOXO!

My Latest Ensembles

I apologize for being such a lurker here even though I've been a member for so long. Like our lovely Madame Kat, whom I had the utmost pleasure of meeting this past weekend in Portland, OR, I have a few new gowns to show off as well. ;-) Below is a gown inspired by the antique parasol I'm holding. I...

Beautiful work! I'm excited to see the rest :D

(By the way, the correct spelling if referring the fashion or the era is Belle "Époque")

It's pretty amusing actually

Wow. What a beautiful gown! I love the pointed hem of the bodice. I would say the this is a day dress from 1876-77 . It is fairly simple with little decoration, long sleeves all the way to the wrist, and what looks like a high or very modest neckline. It could also be worn as a dinner dress. This wa...

Not one of my favorite points in history for fashion, but I think these gowns are day dresses from 1873 , around October perhaps? Wild guess on the month but I'll give it a shot anyways. The high waistline, belled sleeves, and the shift from elliptical hoop to a large bustle tells me this is very ea...
