Re: Return to the 1885 dress! - Sleeve fitting.

Ah, thank you for your input! And that I wasn't imaging things that the sleeves are a hair too short. It is going to have cuff and fake blouse part inside too. Have to figure out the proportions for that. :) I guessed so too with the pooching on behind. Better on behind than in front. ;) At least I ...

Return to the 1885 dress! - Sleeve fitting.

Hello again, about half a year later! :D I have finished the collar and the bodice closure by now. (I went for my own way) Then it is about time to make the sleeves. As I have only made puff sleeves earlier so I guess it is "forgiving" for errors.. Now it is time for fitted sleeves! Of the...

Re: The collar for the 1885 dress

Let's see if I interpret this correct, then my curve should be inverted, generally speaking? (and the rest adjusted along)

Re: The collar for the 1885 dress

I am still not getting you.. ;) I do not have the TV405 pattern, I forgot to tell you that. I am puzzled about your pattern. If the taller part (the left side) is for back then it needs a back seam, right? The pattern piece of mine, the curved edge is the edge against neck. I will try to think more ...

Re: The collar for the 1885 dress

Hello, Thank you both, Mary and Heather! (The Star Wars collection belongs to my guy but I also have parts of it, haha! That big Darth Vader figure is mine!) I went to look at the TV405. Looking at one of the photos it looks like it has minimal or no stand? The collar for this dress need to have qui...

The collar for the 1885 dress

Hello again. :) I am now at the collar stage. I want to make it look like the extant dress here. http://www.metmuseum.org/collections/search-the-collections/106981?img=3#fullscreen" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick=&...

What to do while in New York

I hope I am posting this to correct place. ;) I will travel to the US for first time. New York is the destination. October 2013, 5 days free to roam. Do you have suggestions for me to visit that is related to Victorian fashion? (the last quarter plus early edwardian). I am not so interested in the i...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

Thanks! Yes, red is actually one of the three colors I ordered for the contrast fabric because I could not decide... ;) The scrap red fabric is not enough. Now I have transferred all the changes to the pattern pieces and some more too. Next is cutting fabric, I guess! After cleaning up, I dislike wo...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

My deadline has been removed because 1. the event starts earlier than I thought and 2. the contrast fabric haven't arrived yet! :/ So it is a little more relaxed now. I have today fitted the bodice and the sleeve. The two sleeves are different. My right sleeve is the correct one, that is the sleeve ...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

I bit the bullet and stopped procrastinating and made the overskirt - from draping only, but following the basic ideas of the pattern and your instructions here. Looking good enough. The folds have to be tacked, still pinned. Now I have gone over to preparing the bodice pattern.. Here you can see a ...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

Oh I am not unhappy this time, in fact I am more pleased than last time outcome. ;) Regarding the short hem, now as you are saying it, I think I am gonna make pleated fabric out of the "contrasting" fabric, to put "behind" the hem, peeking down a little bit. I saw it on the photo...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

The prototype overskirt is looking different - again. ;) Over the underskirt, worn on me. Again, should be longer to bottom or what do you think? The yellow part at least. (now if there's room on the narrower fabric width is another matter, I have to check it out) realunderskirt4.jpg realunderskirt5...

Re: Trying to make similar drapery/skirt - and MORE!

Me again, sorry for writing thousands of posts, asking to hold my hands... ;) Now I have cut and sewn the underskirt. Yay. (no photo without overskirt, sorry!) It looked great when I looked at myself in a a mirror, not seeing the sides and back. Then when I asked my guy to photograph, I see on the p...
