Re: "Elegant Lady's Closet" drawstring dress

Oh, and a little late, but... thank you Heather! If you offered a drawstring pattern I would have snatched it up in a second. Your patterns are among the best I've ever worked with, and THE best for mixing and matching various elements; they make sense, they go together perfectly, and your direction...

Re: "Elegant Lady's Closet" drawstring dress

Just found this photo, also from Aylwen Gardiner-Garden's blog. It's of a dress from the same period, with a much more rounded back bodice (no squared-off section)... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zvWaQOgLaAw/Th2c2y1_0hI/AAAAAAAABzs/3BJGsnyLYOw/s1600/IMG_1716.JPG ...which means I can re-draft that spot ...

Re: "Elegant Lady's Closet" drawstring dress

Thanks, Heather - that's probably it. I wasn't sure whether the issue was historical accuracy or a drafting error.

The sleeve doesn't have a corresponding square spot. I might just draft it out to save myself some future irritation.

Re: "Elegant Lady's Closet" drawstring dress

Oh... I realize this isn't a Truly Victorian pattern (Heather doesn't offer patterns from this period), but I'm hoping someone here is familiar with it and can offer some good advice. Thanks! :)

"Elegant Lady's Closet" drawstring dress

I like this pattern, but the arm hole (armscye?) annoys the heck out of me... every single time I make it. Instead of curving in the back, it meets at a right angle. I have to stitch wider than 5/8" at the point to fully encase it. I'm ready to gently re-draft the bodice because setting in fitt...

So... I wandered over to Oriental Trading and found "White Gossamer" -- looks an awful lot like my favorite (expensive) Do-Sew Pattern Tracing Material Turns out... I really like Oriental Trading's "White Gossamer" fabric! It's a little softer and drapes better than Do-Sew, take...

I should mention that I use soft colored pencils on Do-Sew material. Anything else tends to mark right through onto the pattern.

Re: Fabric glue

I'm coming a little late to this party, but this happens to be my professional specialty. :D Find a local upholsterer or dressmaker who has a #24 (5/8") button die, and he/she will be happy to make your buttons. "Push together" button forms were never meant to handle heavy fabric like...

Thanks, Heather! Did you size it up for measurements without a corset? Or is there enough ease built in already? ...although I can't picture buttoning this coat over an un-corseted waist.

Re: Bodice into coat?

Regarding TV560...

How would it look without a bustle underneath? If worn over modern clothing (i.e., jeans and a T-shirt), and sized for an un-corseted figure, would it just look like a swishy coat?

Do you have a pic? I would love to see it Why... sure! I posted a few photos here. Re: visiting dress planning

I think I read on here somewhere about swapping pattern back and front. Basically I wanna put the back of the 405 vest basque with the front of the vested bodice (which I would have to order). I did exactly that. And it worked beautifully. I traced the vest bodice front and side hems onto the vest ...
