Civil War Day Dress for a Young Lady?

Hello again everyone! Haven't been around much as of late, but I've been lurking every now and then. School has been absolute murder lately. But lots of stuff has happened. I finally found a job! And I'm very slowly saving penny by penny to make another outfit! At the victorian house where I'm a tou...

I found a pair that look Victorian at first glance!! But then again they do have that annoying zipper on the side. Though I've found that zipper has come in handy a few times especially when I had to do crazy fast quickchanges for something! I actually ran into them at K-Mart of all places!! I walke...

Thanks guys. The front I like just the way it is, but it's the back. I'm wearing the dinner bodice, and the tail in the back just bothers me the way it is... (it was the only bodice pattern I had - :D ). Maybe its' just me, lol. And yes, it is the TV324 overskirt- I love that pattern, by the way! I'...

First completely victorian outfit!

Drumroll.... Here it is! It's not finished, of course, that explains why it's so plain, but I actually completed it! Well, a few months ago, :). I need ideas as too what I'm going to do with it. it's so.... plain.... I don't have a picture of the back yet, but it needs something nice to make it look...

alright guys! I've got the fabric, and began drafting the bodice, but my only problem left is the sleeves! I'm not quite sure how to go about making them, as I have absolutely no experience in attempting to draft them. Too add on to that, I'm not exacty sure what kind/type they are because the pictu...

Yes, that's what I was thinking. For some reason, that waistband kept falling down... I guess I'll have to find that skirt from the recesses of my really frightening sewing section and see for myself.

Alright - I got the fabric. Not bad. Partly polyester, but it's a really nice, thin white fabric that feels heavenly. I got about eight yards for about $25, so I'm happy. :) I think I'm going to use the same pattern system heather gave me when I made my "Into the Woods" baker's wife outfit...

I hope Heather doesn't mind me resurrecting this old thread, but I felt that I owed it to you guys to hear what I sound like, especially since you've always given me so much support. Well, here it goes. I recorded this as my graduation present to my sister whose going to college next year (what am I...

Thanks for all the info guys! Just a few questions, if I were to draft this myself, how could I go about doing it? The bodice and the skirt and both gathered, but I doubt their all gathered in one piece, probably gathered separately and sewn together. And the sleeves, gigot? One final question: any ...

The only thing is, I'm having difficulty placing it in the correct time period to try to find some patterns and historical references for it. Here's a few pictures of the outfit: Side View Fr...

Hardly anyone ever notices anyways. Carlotta! Now that's an interesting project! Do you have any experien...

I love reading this thread! Good to know that I'm not the only person who's guilty of it.

Yesterday, I was coming home from volunteering at a victorian tea, and my sister random decided to say "Let's go to the mall."

You guys can probably guess what happened after that. :)

Spring and Summer Dresses from NF Era

I've tried looking - but I haven't really hit anything yet. does anyone know of any images or fashion plates of dresses worn during spring and summer in the NF era? One more question: What type of fabric would a spring of summer dress be made of? I often hear muslin, lawn, etc. and things like that....

Since I'm still in my LIW prime... The version I have is a very beaten up version from the seventies, and it says that Williams illustrated the book in the 1953. So, Laura was still alive... she died three days after her nintieth birthday in 1957, so she was only 86? More than likely, she approved t...
