Re: TV110 Sizing for a Newbie

Thanks, Heather - I have the pattern ready to go in Size I, A cup. I did cut the H with a B cup but there was around a 5" gap at the back and I couldn't lace it down. I re-measured my natural waist at 36, so I think the H would have been a bit optimistic (I've put on a little weight and it alwa...

Re: TV110 Sizing for a Newbie

OK, so that toile was decidedly tight (as in 'can't actually lace it up'). Measured again and although the bust is correct, the waist was *cough* a little optimistic. So...if I cut a size I, what should I do about the cup size, please? I mean, technically, I guess it should be the A cup but having n...

Victorian Petticoats TV170

Not a question (for once), Heather! Just wanted to tell you that I have just finished the Belle Epoque version 4 and couldn't be more thrilled with it. I put it under the rather questionable walking skirt that I was provided with as a costumed docent and it makes SUCH a difference to the look and ha...

Re: Hem facing fabric for TV291

Thanks again, Heather, for your rapid reply! Self-fabric facings sound perfect for the walking skirt - I think the 'evening' fabric might need something a bit weightier so cotton drill flatlined to fashion fabric sounds like the way to go! I've just ordered all of the supplies for my first TV Victor...

Hem facing fabric for TV291

Hi - here I am again with more questions (sorry!) I am gathering up my fabrics to make the TV291 Walking Skirt in a medium weight wool blend and wondered what you would advise me to use for the hem facings - I'm also planning to make the TV298 Umbrella Skirt (floor length) in an evening-type fabric ...

Re: Bodice Advice

Brilliant, thanks! I could really dress that bodice up - or let the fabric 'speak' for itself :D

Bodice Advice

Hi Heather, I've more or less decided to go with TV291 for the skirt for Christmas at Lanhydrock, but am still undecided about a bodice. I would like to create an evening outfit, but I'm not sure whether a lady of a certain age would have her arms and decolletage too much on display. I need to keep ...

Re: TV416 boning question

Thanks, Heather - the bodice is now flatlined and I'm getting ready to sew tomorrow, so will order the boning and that should be with me by Wednesday. The toile went together really nicely, so despite the nature of the yellow fabric (pretty but slippery, with a subtle sheen), I don't anticipate any ...

TV416 boning question

I need to order spiral boning for the back side seams and had hoped to buy it precut and capped - problem is, that I can either get 5mm or 7mm but 6mm only comes in metre lengths (not uncut  ). Since I only need four (two for me and two for my fellow Lanhydrock sewing buddy who is making her bo...

Re: Skirt to go with TV490!

Fabulous - and TV170 comes as an e-pattern as well (woohoo :bounce: )!

Thank you so much for the advice - can't wait to get sewing!

Re: Skirt to go with TV490!

Thanks so much, Heather! I need a new walking skirt anyway so will be ordering the TV291 e-pattern for that one - the Lanhydrock-issued skirt is O.K. but it is in a rather thin material and it has a zipper (!). Plus it is getting awfully loose round the waist - I've lost 70lb in total and about 14lb...

Hello from Devon, England

Having posted two questions, I thought that I should really introduce myself properly! I'm Pam, 63 in July; I've been married to my lovely husband for 25 years this year and we live in a tiny village in Devon with our four Maine Coon cats. I have been volunteering in costume at the National Trust pr...

Skirt to go with TV490!

I am a costumed volunteer docent at Lanhydrock House in Cornwall (National Trust) and this Christmas, we are recreating the 1893 Costume Ball. We have a very detailed newspaper report of the ball, including the names of the guests and the costumes that they were wearing and our small project team ha...

Brilliant, thanks so much! Yes, I'll try it with G all the way - after all, that floof has to go somewhere!

Will let you know how I get on :D

TV110 Sizing for a Newbie

Hi, I've just ordered the e-pattern for the Victorian corset and could use a little help with sizing, please. I am a costumed room guide at Lanhydrock House (National Trust) and I wear a late Victorian blouse and walking skirt. I have been wearing an off-the-peg overbust corset from 'Corset Story' b...
