Re: Fitting below the waist in front

Hi Heather, I would be very interested in the extra pattern piece as I have a small waist for my hips but a very rounded belly. The bottom of my busk was poking out too and creating a noticeable bump even under my skirts and petticoats. To combat this I bent the bottom of my busk gently to give it a...

Re: Trim construction advice and possibly a question for Merja

Yes that could be the problem, it is quite drapey. It's pinned up at the moment with the idea of putting two hooks on so I'll try it with your suggestion of one as well and see which one works best. Yes don't worry, I tried it on with my boots, lobster tail bustle and two petticoats, I like to make ...

Re: Trim construction advice and possibly a question for Merja

Hi, I'm really sorry to have to ask this but I've hit a snag with my skirt. I've made all the trims and they look wonderful, in the end I made the skirt and added the trims as a flat panel rather than in two halves because it was easier to divide the full hem into even trim allowances rather than th...

Re: Trim construction advice and possibly a question for Merja

Thanks so much for your reply, it's exactly what I needed, I feel much more confident about tackling this now. I've always loved the layered look but haven't been brave enough to have a go at it. Would any quilting cotton or similar cotton fabric do to make the base skirt out of? The majority of the...

Re: Trim construction advice and possibly a question for Merja

Hi Heather, Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad I was somewhere near with the trim. So make a facing larger than the trim, sew it along the hem and up each side of the proposed slits, slit the fabric, turn right side out, hand tack the top of the facing down, pleat the squares up one side. I ...

Trim construction advice and possibly a question for Merja

Hello, I would be so grateful for a bit of help and advice with some trim construction details. I have a rough idea what I am doing but fear I have gone slightly mad and lost the plot somewhere along the way. I am making a marvel comic/incredible hulk themed dress. Told you I had lost the plot. So, ...

Re: Petticoats on a yoke

Thanks Heather, that's great. I had heard it mentioned somewhere and didn't know if it made that much difference that it was worth doing. Thanks!

Petticoats on a yoke

Hello! I would like a bit of advice please, I'm making a late bustle dress and am in the process of making two new petticoats for it. I was originally just going to make them up as two separate items but now I'm toying with the idea of either putting them on the same waistband or on a yoke to reduce...

Thanks Bookwyrm, that's pretty much how I did it in the end and it was really useful, saved me some valuable time!

Corset bust too small

Hello, I need some advice on corset bust sizing. I'm making a new corset and this will be my second TV110. The first one fit beautifully so I decided to make another with more waist reduction. I've made a mockup out of herringbone canvas and boned each seam and used a spoon busk. I tried the mock up...

Re: Boned Grommet Tape - Has anyone used it?

Hi Heather, thank you so much for your reply. Yes I was thinking of keeping the centre back whole rather than cutting it back and just sewing the tape on in line with where the grommets would be on the actual centre back. That seemed the easiest but I wasn't sure if it was the best way! Thank you fo...

Boned Grommet Tape - Has anyone used it?

Hello, I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a little query about attaching grommet tape. I bought some of the tape with boning channels either side of the grommets like this http://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/shop/home/322-eyelet-tape-with-boning-channels.html" onclick="window.open(this.h...
