Re: TV 263 1887 Imperial Skirt question

Yup, it totally does, and that was my hint that I'd done something wrong. I just didn't notice that the CF mark on the pattern isn't in the center. My eye thought it was but nope! It's shifted, putting an extra inch and a quarter to the back right side. I'm not sure what the heck I did when I marked...

Re: TV 263 1887 Imperial Skirt question

Thanks, Heather! I'm doing View B, so I don't think that one has a burnous pleat... does it? I think my issue is that I need to shift the waistband so it doesn't close CB. It needs more room on the back right to accommodate the extra panel of fabric (CB panel) that the left side of the waistband doe...

TV 263 1887 Imperial Skirt question

It's been a loooong time since I was back here, and I have such fond memories of all the helpful advice I received on this board! Well I need some help. I'm not sure if I'm tired or what, but I am having trouble setting the Imperial skirt onto the waistband! I matched up the center front. The front ...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

I was actually meaning to have the extra fabric on BOTH sides, not one. That way the excess is evenly distributed and not overly bulky in front, which can be gathered without looking cumbersome. And, as mentioned, you either move the buttons or sew additional rows in so you're ready. The hook-and-e...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

I have a suggestion that incorporates another idea, with the gathering, and it could reduce the bulk of having a ton of gathered fabric. You could size and cut the extra fabric, and button it into the jacket on the inside, with some gathering to help it fit. Then as you progress in the pregnancy, j...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

Thanks, Cindy! Yes, everyone seems to expand differently, so it can be hard to say. Thanks, Heather! So If I'm picturing this right... it would be sort of an inverted V in the end? Since my CF panel will be one piece and not buttoned up the center, should I make a mock up of the CF piece and then us...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

Maybe try adding more seam allowance to the side seams? I like the idea of the drawstring front! CONGRATS!!!!! :bounce: Yes, Frank, you have exactly what I have in mind. I'm just wondering how much to add. 10 inches? 20 inches? And should I add it evenly from bust to hip and count on the drawstring...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

Totally just a whim, but you could make the center piece so it is gathered from the top to the bottom, but instead of permanent threads where you will change the most, use the drawstring on the inside. Congratulations, by the way! :) Exactly the plan, Cindy! So glad I was making sense! My question ...

Maternity wear

*EDIT: I miscarried at 6.5 weeks* * * * Well, I'm pregnant! So happy! But now I need to adjust my costuming wardrobe to accomodate my growing belly. I'm only 5.5 weeks, but I already have a small bump...enough that my very fitted bodices don't fit anymore. I could corset up and suck it in and get in...

Velvet collar for TV 403 Vested Bodice

Hey, Heather~ I want to do the lapel out of velvet. I know piece B (front) says "cut 2 of fabric, interlining, and lapel fabric" but I don't have enough to make the whole front of velvet (and that would be a waste since only the lapel would show it), so I was wondering if I could get away ...

1904 Trumpet skirt question

Hi, Heather! This one's for you. The ruffle pattern piece says "cut 12" but he directions say "cut 5." Should I cut 5 ruffle pieces or 12 ruffle pieces?

Thank you!!

Thanks, Heather! https://neverlight.com/~madame.s/Sewing/1905%20evening%20dress/bone%20channels%20take%202.jpg I only have 3/4" channel tape, so I'm stuck with that... gotta make it work! Following your advice to move the bottoms over to the right a little, I was able to sneak that bone channel...

Re: Placement of boning for 1903 corset

OK, supplies arrived, so I did the busk and grommets. Now it's time for those pesky boning channels. Is this remotely right? I can't seem to fit 4 of them in this area as pictured. Am I doing something wrong? I can't fit in the one closest to the busk. https://neverlight.com/~madame.s/Sewing/1905%20...

Re: 1904 evening gown project

Thank you!! LOL!! And thanks for liking the objects strewn around the room. I should clean up a bit before I take photos! I made the hook and eye placket, got that attached, then put on the waistband. I'll worry about the hem when I decide what shoes I'll wear with this gown. I don't think I ...

Re: 1904 evening gown project

Thanks, Dede! We had to run a bunch of errands and cook dinner, etc. I did get the bodice parts cut out, and I made the "eye" part of the hook and eye skirt placket while watching a movie after dinner. Nothing else concrete to show yet, but I'll have photos of something in a day or so.

1904 evening gown project

You may have read my post over in the "How do I...?" section. I'm starting my first ever early Edwardian ensemble! I'm so excited! I lost my mind with joy when I saw the new patterns and scooped them up immediately. I'm still working on the corset, which I'm making out of black coutil. I'v...
