Re: Mourning Dress

Pretty cold at the English festivals in the winter months too! Our victorian counterparts MUST have had warm foundation garments also. On the other hand, you find from churchyard headstones in England, that a good deal more people died in the winter months at that time!

Re: Empress Elisabeth Of Austria: Velvet And Mink

Smashing outfit! I wouldn't worry too much about the dress volume as seen in the original photographs of 'Sissi', they probably look more voluminous on account of her reputed 19" waist! Not sure how true that was, I find it hard to believe that measurement even with a tight laced corset. Her pa...

yo, Victorian MC in the house

A good friend asked me if I would be prepared to be a Master of Ceremonies for his daughter's forthcoming wedding. "Just one problem", said he, "She would like you to have a red tailcoat like a toastmaster" " No problem" said I I think the red coat is probably more of a...

Re: 1870's Hat

I tried to get information on the techniques of hatting from a museum devoted to it in Manchester, England. However there seems to be very little available as most of the methods were handed down from father to sons/daughters and seldom written down. Most all seem to start with a felt 'dome' steamed...

Yay, looks fantastic with the whole effect of the dress. You even have a piano with sconces in the background, that was manufactured about the turn of the century, in Burr walnut........sorry just my own trade coming out here!

Really good, and that hat REALLY completes the look! You would have been correctly attired to have attended a recitation by the man himself in London England!

I think it looks really good, perhaps you should post a picture with the complete outfit, just so we can all judge the hat in perspective!

A great amount of work gone into that, and a great dress as a result! Did you hand pleat all the red pleats on the panniers?

Very interesting, also seeing the frame numbers flicking in the left hand corner, was this by any chance card numbers from a Victorian Mutoscope?

Just look at the construction of that! was it boned with steel or actual whalebone?......and the metalwork on the suspenders, you won't get any breaking or dropt stockings with fittings like those!

Fantastic, and a good deal of hours work went into that train I'll wager. I trust you had a fair number of well dressed 'cowboys' ready to escort you! You really must post a picture of you wearing it.
