Oregon Dress

It is too late to do this for this year, but for next year I want to make a dress to celebrate Oregon Statehood Day. We became a state on February 14, 1859. So I assume that the double skirt (TV244) and the Pagoda Bodice (TV 440) are the way to go. But what hoop? The walking cage (TV 142)? Or the Ro...

Re: Covering a straw Bonnet blank

I think it maybe 1830's or 1840's but am nor sure. I'd love to trim it to be more 1870ish if possible but if not it will work for my steampunk stuff. Front view http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=12967 Side view http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main...

Covering a straw Bonnet blank

I purchased a Straw bonnet blank at Columbia, CA State Historic park last weekend. I want to line it and put ribbon ties on it but am unsure how. Any hints?

Fabric for the split skirt?

So I'm eyeing the 1901 Split Skirt TV 299 to make a riding habit for several upcoming Rose City Steampnk Carousel rides. (I did manage in the Grand bustle even with the hoop to ride astride last time but it was tricky.) So I was wondering what kind of fabric would be used or are suitable for making ...

Re: TV 201 1870's skirt ruffle

I was just wearing the polonaise since I hadn't made the bodice yet. I'm planing on making TV403 the 1872 Vested bodice to match for cooler weather wear and maybe wearing the white blouse waist with it in slightly warmer weather. =) I think the waistband would show with either of those options.

New skirt

http://trulyvictorian.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=12140 I finished this yesterday so I could wear it to the County Historical Society Handmade Holiday Bazaar today. Several ladies from the Society dress up and more try to every year. (I keep getting asked where do ...

Re: TV 201 1870's skirt ruffle

So I finally finished the skirt. I need to reinforce the waistband because the fabric is cotton velvet with a little lycra. Just enough to make the waist band streatch and slide down from where it needs to be and the hem which should just clear the ground drags. I'm thinking of cutting a strip the r...

Re: TV 201 1870's skirt ruffle

I wasn't going to make the train since I wanted the skirt walking length so should I do the trim all the way around. I get how to make box pleats but how do you do double box pleats?

TV 201 1870's skirt ruffle

So I want to make this skirt and put the 12 inch ruffle of box pleats. I'm making the skirt out of cotton velvet. Do I need to make the skirt full length and then put the ruffle on or can I cut the skirt 8 inches shorter and cover it with the ruffle? It seems like the two layers would add a lot of e...

TV403 making it as a separate blouse and jacket

So I want to make a full separate blouse and a jacket out of the TV 403 1872 vested bodice. Would I bone both layers? For the jacket part, I'd make it two sizes bigger, right? The blouse layer I want to make out of a light weight linen and the jacket layer out of a cotton velvet. Basically I want to...

The new TV400 I've been working on. Everything except the lace came out of my stash. The skirt and Hat I made last year for different outfits.

Darts on TV 400

So I'm small busted and when I fit the TV400 I only really have room for one dart. Does this dramatically alter the look of the bodice? Do I really need two?

Peplum on TV400

So how off would the peplum on the TV 400 dinner bodice look if I took an inch and a half off the long straight side? (It's the only way I can fit the pattern on the piece of fabric I want to use. I bought said fabric for my quilt stash and have decided it would look better as a dinner bodice.)
