Re: Talma Wrap

Thanks for checking it out, Heather! And as always, a huge thank you for your wonderful tips and replies to our questions here! This was my first time using a lining like this, and I almost didn't get it. My husband kept nudging me to use it, saying how much nicer it would be to have that be the lin...

Talma Wrap

Hello everyone! I just finished the talma wrap and it was such a nice project. The only disappointment I really have is that this winter has been warmer than usual. Doesn't it figure? I have wanted to make a wrap for so long, so of course when I finally do the weather doesn't cooperate. Fortunately,...

Re: Mad About Plaid!

Thanks for the replies! I usually use a pretty sturdy interlining that I flat line my fashion fabric to. This is the true base of the bodice itself. The front sections are pieced together -- the white part is shaped only a little larger than the visible part and tacked down (it is gathered, and I ma...

Mad About Plaid!

Or at least plaid bustle skirts! I just thought I'd share my recent bustle gown that I wore to an event. I used Truly Victorian patterns, and did some custom piecing on the front of the bodice to create a layered look. I had a little bit of trouble, mainly due to illness and stress... and I was in a...

This is a fun show. I've attended off and on over the past several years, and I always enjoy seeing what's for sale and meeting up with friends there :)

Re: TV500 Talma Wrap front closure variation

Excellent! That's how I was thinking of doing it, but wanted to make sure I wasn't taking over-thinking it or heading for a mess. :)

Best wishes, and thanks for the very quick reply!

TV500 Talma Wrap front closure variation

I have a question. I've seen similar wraps in fashion plate books using drapey lace on the edges instead of fringe, and have wanted to make the Talma wrap like that (also using cascading zig-zag ruffles down the front from the neck to the hem on each side of the front opening, mirroring each other) ...

Re: My new TV460 evening bodice

Yes, mine is very simple even with the extra steps to keep the bottom from being too saggy. One thing I would do differently... I would make it so I could add an extra ribbon drawstring. I don't overpack my purses if I can help it, but it's inevitable I'll end up with extra stuff *laughs* The single...

Re: My new TV460 evening bodice

Thanks everyone! Yes, I was very nervous about the satin wrinkling showing too much, but I flatlined it to a sturdier fabric (and serged the edges) as well as used an interior waistbelt to help keep the buttons from taking too much strain. I think that's also the thing I love the most about clothing...

My new TV460 evening bodice

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I posted anything new here. I'm not sure if any of you remember my old ballgown, but I just finished an evening bodice to go with the old skirts. Here are links to the information pages from my website about the patterns and materials used: The old ballgow...

Hello again!

It's been a very long time since I last posted here -- hello again! I had to put sewing away for several years, and when I did finally get back to it I focused on 18th century. I'm still mainly focused on that era for a few reasons, but I found myself pulling an old 19th century sewing project (TV46...

Miss Cindy, I'm so glad you mentioned that. I found myself admiring her lovely nails as well. I've never been able to grow my nails - they always bother me and I have to cut them off.
