Re: Beginners question on TV442

Thanks! Also, how critical is it to have the boning the correct length? Is there some leeway? The boning I got for on of the pairs of darts is a smidge too long, but the next longer ones are the same length to fit the side seams. Also, I forgot to get a bone for the center front and although I have ...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

I'm considering not using the lining and finishing the bodice off with bias tape made from the fashion fabric buttttttt....

I don't actually have any of the fabric left. I do have the half-panels from the skirt left over, so I'm wondering if I can make do with bias strips that aren't true bias?

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Thanks! I haven't actually gotten to doing it yet, and for the darts was starting to wonder if I had to slash them open first...but if one side works okay, that's good. I assume the lining (which I did decide to do, since I am practically out of the fashion fabric, or can't do bias strips anyways) k...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Disregard, Heather! I think I figured it out. I'd just assumed that you couldn't machine stitch to the seam allowance, but then I read somewhere that basically said to do that, so I thought to myself,

"Wait, that _is_ possible?"

Then I realized how to do it.

Re: Beginners question on TV442

No worries! New question. I'm onto the boning and I have some tubular bone casing from waaaaaaaay back (go Past Me!). I've done some reading and some looking at YouTube but I'm not entirely sure on how attaching the boning (in the casing) to the seam allowance and darts is supposed to go. It looks l...

Re: TV442 fitting

Progress!!! :bounce: Okay, so I did my muslin, adjusted the armholes, and have sewed up the fashion fabric pieces and gave it a test fit (no pics unfortunately). Now, I did mess up the front pieces slightly because I accidentally flatlined the two front pieces the same way. Twice. :bang: So I tried ...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Hi Heather,

I think you missed my question above (kinda got thread hijacked  ). If one doesn't do a lining for the bodice, how would I go about finishing the top and bottom of it?

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Something I realized while flatlining last night.

If I'm not going to do a lining to allow easier adjustments as I lose weight, how do I finish the top and bottom of the bodice?

Re: Beginners question on TV442

The armhole was binding when I moved my arms forward (and up but I think that's normal, yes?).

The mockup I did had the same thing and so I cut slits into the front part of the armhole until I could move comfortably.

Re: Beginners question on TV442

So here's the weird thing. My wife did my measurements, based on the blog entry: Back width 19.75" Back length 19.75" Bust 57" Arm Hole 24" So I have to extrapolate the Back Width to "Q" which iwould be a Back Width of 20". The Adjusted Back would then be extrapola...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

I think I figured out part of the problem. A friend of mine sewed the previous gown I used and she gave me the pattern pieces back. But when comparing the instructions to the pattern pieces, I now realize that my back width is quite a bit bigger (wide rib cage), which is probably why she did the pri...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

I'm in the process of losing weight, and was thinking I should try to 'future proof' the bodice at least. I'm thinking of adding a privacy panel and closing it with laces at the back instead of the hook and eye. Is this a good idea?

Re: TV442 fitting

I put together a mockup and tried it on (and realized immediately some tweaks I needed to do like...actually sew up two of the waist darts). The question I have right now is that I noticed the shoulder seam doesn't lie on the top of my shoulder but about maybe, 1.5 inches towards the back? Is that n...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Aha. I was wondering why it seemed (pun not intended) that the fabric pieces didn't match up at the fabric edge.

Beginners question on TV442

Finally getting onto doing the bodice, using the TV442 pattern. And this is one of those 'total newb' questions, but I've been looking at YouTube videos on doing princess seams (which this seems to have), but all the examples they give have two notches, where it's curved between but will lay flat on...

The "Almost Finished" picture!

I'm _this_ close to finishing but it's not happening tonight. But I figured I'd post some pics to Facebook for friends and I decided to show them here too. :-)
