Elsa 1860s at Vancouver Fan Expo

This weekend I got garbed up for two days as Elsa, 25 years later. :-)

Re: TV442 fitting

I think there were a couple of issues: One is that the bottom point on the center front I think might need to be more pointy, or at least some fabric does need to be removed from the bottom front and maybe the back. It seems to be rippling a bit on the front. There's a substantial gap now, worse tha...

Re: TV442 fitting

Hmmmm...I thought I'd had it, but I think I might have made it worse. :-(

I'm wondering if it's actually too tight, so it's riding up the shoulder a bit, and adding a privacy panel like I'd intended to anyways should deal with that?

Re: TV108 Sizing

Something I just realized. The instructions say that you adjust the length where marked on the pattern, but I don't see anywhere on the pattern that I would lengthen?

Re: TV108 Sizing

I think six inches should be plenty, enough to give it a shot anyway.

TV108 Sizing

Now that I'm done the Elsa 1860s gown (pics hopefully this weekend, if the smoke goes away), I'm looking at starting a bustle gown. I'll be making a Grand Bustle using the TV108 pattern, but while my hips are 40-50 inches, my waist is 46 inches, so I'm not sure if the 2XL size will work, given that ...

Re: TV442 fitting

The shoulder edges looks like it got stretched out a bit when the piping when on. This is a very common problem as this edge is bias. So you really need to think "shrink" as you work with it. Yes, you can put in a tucker, which is a narrow edging of lace or fabric with a drawstring, that ...

Re: TV442 fitting

So, I posted this to a Facebook group, and a couple of recommendations I've had are: For the neckline, put a tucker up there, which as far as I understand, is just a narrow piece of gathered lace that's basted into the neckline? The bodice may be too long, which would check since the gown that my fr...

Re: TV442 fitting

It's _THIS_ close to being done! IMG_1621s.jpg There are some fitting issues I'm having though. IMG_1618s.jpg There is a gap at the back, but I am intending to do a privacy panel...just needed to figure out how big of one I needed. Namely the bodice gaps a lot at the lower part of the center back (I...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I thought the topstich to the bodice along the gathers meant the neckline gathers, not the ones along the middle.

Oops.

Guess I'll need to take the bones out of the casings first though. That could be ... bad.

Re: Beginners question on TV442

ALMOST THERE. I'm doing the berthe, gathered the top to the neckline, sewed it. Then gathered along the line shown on the pattern piece. So I made a bias strip, about 2 inches, folded the sides, and then attached it to the berthe over the gather stitch. Naturally I do this on the wrong side. <sigh> ...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

If you are not using it with piping, so that it will not be seen, then I would purchase bias tape in a similar color. Or make some out of a different fabric. If you want to using it with piping, then you can make the piping separately with the fashion fabric on the straight, but then use a bias str...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Thanks! Also, how critical is it to have the boning the correct length? Is there some leeway? The boning I got for on of the pairs of darts is a smidge too long, but the next longer ones are the same length to fit the side seams. Also, I forgot to get a bone for the center front and although I have ...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

I'm considering not using the lining and finishing the bodice off with bias tape made from the fashion fabric buttttttt....

I don't actually have any of the fabric left. I do have the half-panels from the skirt left over, so I'm wondering if I can make do with bias strips that aren't true bias?

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Thanks! I haven't actually gotten to doing it yet, and for the darts was starting to wonder if I had to slash them open first...but if one side works okay, that's good. I assume the lining (which I did decide to do, since I am practically out of the fashion fabric, or can't do bias strips anyways) k...

Re: Beginners question on TV442

Disregard, Heather! I think I figured it out. I'd just assumed that you couldn't machine stitch to the seam allowance, but then I read somewhere that basically said to do that, so I thought to myself,

"Wait, that _is_ possible?"

Then I realized how to do it.
